New in Ice Blue

Hello!
Very happy to be posting as a new Ice Blue owner. The "Coop du Ciel" and I are a very happy couple, with many miles and smiles ahead of us.

Thanks to you all for so much helpful information and MINIwisdom!

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

I'd like to know your opinions on the controversial "First Oil Change."
With just under 700 on my engine, MINI says 'no worries until 12K', but others think an early change is good for the engine.

How have you handled your new engines?

I think we've been debating the oil change interval since 2002. Positions range from follow MINI's recommendations, to hold-overs from the 3,000-mile interval days of yore.

Most seem to think the recommended intervals for most new cars are too long, but I'm not sure what the most appropriate interval is for the long haul; maybe somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 miles. I change oil/filter once a year due to low mileage. If I changed based on mileage, I think I would change at whatever seems to be in the middle of my service intervals. Some say they change twice between service intervals. Make yourself comfortable about it.

I change my oil every 3k miles. I would suggest doing a 3k mile first oil change then go with 5k intervals from there.
