Hello from North Carolina
Hello from North Carolina
Hi, my name is Michael, call me Mike. Just got a new (well, at least new-to-me) MINI last week, and have enjoyed every bit of it.
2003 Indi Blue, just under 62k, has cloth seats, and has a standard 2-spoke steering wheel, along with the Scottish (St. Andrews) flag on top; was thinking about removing it, but since the color goes with the car and the fact that I'm part Scottish, I'm leaving it, and may replace it when it starts to fade.
Don't know what kind of package I got so here's the specs from the original specs sheet from the dealership (yep, I'm surprised too that it came with the original paper)
Indi Blue Metallic
Space Gray/Panther Black Cloth
Anthracite Trim
DSC
Sport Seats
Front Fog Lamps
Rear Spoiler
17" Alloy Wheels
205/45R-17 Performance Run-flat tires (now changed out to normal radials)
Xenon Headlamps w/headlamp power wash (and I still haven't figured out where the wash button is!)
Roof & Mirrors in White
Automatic Air Conditioning
And that's pretty much it, no MFSW, Cruise control, or... something else I don't have...
Anyways, I'll upload pictures later after I give it a good cleaning. When I purchased it, I was actually looking at some MR2s for a new car, trading off from the Spyders to the 2nd Gen 2's every now and then. Then I came across a MINI. Dark gray metallic (don't know the paint code), black roof & mirrors, and leather seats. I loved it, and it was more practical than getting a two seater with hardly any room for a college student and his buds! So the search began, and after about 3 weeks of searching, I came across one in Raleigh. It was about 4 hours away, so me and my family packed up and headed towards Raleigh to stay with some friends for a day. While we were there, we checked it over and I like it. It needed some work (i.e. scratches, two small dings), but ran and drove great, and the clutch still had a lot of life left, great for me, since I had never driven a manual before. I had always known "how" to drive a manny, but had never had any experience with one. Anyways, the next day on our way back home, we stopped and bought it. I am very happy with my purchase, but I am worried about how the previous owners took care of it (by the way, I am the 3rd owner). They had taken it to Jiffy Lube to get their oil changed and stuff, and you know how "the lube" goes. Anyways, the other day, me and my dad finally had some time to look under it and stuff, and when we took out the air filter... let me just say, WOW... the filter was so bad, some of the crevices looked like they had fudge in them! I immediately went up to Advance Auto Parts and placed an order for a replacement, luckily they had one in Conover, and it would be there by the evening. It's better, but now I'm concerned about the oil and filter. So now, I'm leaving it alone and driving my bro's car for a while until I can get the time to change it, which will most likely be next Sunday...
I believe I have posted enough about my MINI for now, so now about myself. If you don't care, you may skip the next paragraph.
Well, I'm christian, I don't race or know a whole lot about cars, so please don't flame if I have a stupid question, but most likely I'll google it first. I am a computer g33k and have built, optimized, and sold many computers, and even work on some for people who ask for my help. I'm not in college right now, but will be this fall. I listen to all sorts of music, basically anything with a good beat, but mostly Techno and Dubstep. I think that's it... Don't play video games as much as I used to or watch movies too often... I guess that sums it up in a nutshell.
I'll be posting some questions in a separate thread in, hopefully, the right sub-forums. Oh and by the way, I already have experience with driving a manual now, and have been driving for almost a week and a half now. I'm still surprised that I got the hang of it within an hour, the day we got it back home, and was able to drive to Wal-mart and back while killing it only once... Well, I'm still learning, so if you have any tips for a n00b, that would be great. And before anyone says anything, yes I have already ordered the Bentley Service Manual, should be here by Tuesday...
Thanks for reading my post, and God bless.
