Hey There
Hey There
Hello everyone. Proud new MINI owner here. Bought an '08 Cooper S a little over a week ago and having a blast with it. It has just over 36k miles, so factory warranty is still in effect. It's dark silver with a black top and mirrors. It came with the Sport and Premium Packages. Lovin' the stiff suspension! Although it does still have the dreaded timing chain tensioner problem on cold starts, so I've set up an appointment with the Dealership in Concord, CA. I called MINI USA to "register" my problem as well so it's at least documented as to what I "think" the problem is... Any tips on how to get this done first try? I've written down the puma number as well as part numbers, but those only help if the dealer determines that to be the problem. I'm dropping the car off on a Saturday and requesting they start it on Monday AM to hear it, but you never know what they'll do. Ironically, my E36 M3 had a timing chain tensioner gone bad, and it took 3 trips to the dealership to rid it of the problem. The BMW dealership was only a few miles from where I work, and Concord BMW is 60 miles or so away (nearest MINI Dealer since I heard BMW of SF customer service sucks). Anyway, other than that issue, the car kicks butt.
Welcome! I have zero experience with 2nd Gen issues, but I'm sure a helpful soul will chime in shortly.
You might consider posting your question in the appropriate 2nd Gen forum.
I am curious to hear how the 09 performs? Is it all that?

Welcome to NAM and the world of MINI!
Can't help on the timing chain tensioner issue as I just got my '11 MCS last Saturday after a pretty much trouble free 5+ years with my '06.
Looking forward to some pics!
