Since I am primarily into "performance" and with a limited budget, like most potential new car buyers, would someone kindly advise me whether the difference between the "base" paint colors and Metallic" colors, available at a $500 premium, is anything other than for appearance, cosmetic?

Or could the metallic paint colors stand up better to the elements and require less maintenance; waxing?

Only difference is the metallic paint which has small metallic flakes to it, while the base paint is a flat color.
