My Old Engine used to be bigger than My new MINI!

Hello guys! So, I just got a new 2005 Mini S hard top, black. I used to have a Jeep SRT8. What a switch! While I miss my jeep and enjoy driving my dad's, I have to say my new Mini is a far different ride and equally a blast! I have had it about a week (had to sell Jeep and get a better commuter car since I moved and lengthened my commute by 50 miles a day).

I have to say that the previous owner took great car of this car and did a great job with his after market selections. It has (so far things I have investigated) ALTA intercooler, 19%pulley, ALTA CAI, Catback exhaust, upgraded suspension, lowered?, checkboard roof and side mirrors, built in radar detector, and nav.

I bought it with the airbag light on and found out the hard way that that was a no-no. I just ordered a new seat and it should be here this weekend for install. I live in Rockville, MD so look out for me!

I will have pics of my old Jeep up and the Mini as well this weekend.

Looking forward to learning a lot and enjoying this new type of ride.

Thanks,
Ian

Welcome STR8toMINI to the world of miniacs. I think your user name is funny .

If I'm not mistaken, the STR8 Jeep is around 400HP. Even though one doesn't normally associate rubber burning with a Jeep, I would imagine the STR8 version could make that happen at will.

It sounds like you have a nicely punked R53. The 19% s/c pulley provides max boost that the supercharger can handle. It is capable of producing some insane heat that can harm your head and/or s/c. With that much boost (20+psi), you would not want to run at redline for long durations, especially in the summer. If you like to run the engine hard or plan to track the car, I would recommend going to the 15% pulley.

Anyway, the R53 (2002-2006 S) MINIs are a blast. If you keep it maintained it should last a long time. BTW: Only run a very high grade synthetic oil (5-30) in your car. The engine is designed and comes from the factory this way. Most of us do oil changes around 5 to 10K miles, which is far from the 15K oil changes that MINI recommends.
