Advice on Roof Rack for my new/used Cooper S

Hi Mini Peers!

I found a great deal on a 2004 Cooper S that was just about to hit the dealer auction. Since I was able to save a ton of $ on the car, I'm looking to make some additions to accommodate our active lifestyle. We need a set up that allows us to change between road bikes, surfboards, and possibly snowboards...

I've been doing some aggressive research on roof rack options for our S that also has a sunroof. We've narrowed it down to aftermarket options, Thule & Yakima. The OEM has mixed reviews but mostly negative. It sounds like the kit that fits our 04 requires some drilling which sounds expensive and too invasive on our new-used baby.

Here's what I need help figuring out:

1. Which base rack is the easiest to install and allows us to open up our sunroof?

2. If we got the Yakima route (which seems to have the best reviews so far), do we need a stretch kit for our 2-door?

Any additional advice anyone wants to share helps!

Thanks!
