One thing I should have done when or before I got my Mini

Hope this thread helps. Give the new guys some ideas. Is get rid of the runflats. Negotiate with your dealer to have the runflats swapped for non runflats. Even if you have to pay for it will still be worth it. I have an 08s with 30000mi on it. Just put on new tires yesterday yokahma avid envigors. I have come to the conclusion that the Flintstonemobile tires would be better than the runflats. Ordered my tires from Tire Rack and arrived at my house 2 days later awesome service. You can have your tires delivered to the dealership installed and ready for your delivery. Read some of the threads regarding runflats and you will see how others feel.

Agreed. I'm saving up for some lighter wheels and am going to get some stickier tires at the same time. Hopefully someone out there that doesn't read NAM will want to buy my old RF's.

Run flats are not good for spirited motoring, enough said.

Non-runflats and a spare tire are standard on a Cooper Hardtop or Clubman.

I'm sure I will enjoy getting rid of the runflats, but I have done some "spirited" driving on them and haven't ended up in the ditch yet! They seem to perform fine on the twisties, even the ones in horrible shape. Personally I don't mind the rough ride. I don't need the Cadillac experience.

That said, when I wear them out I do plan on putting on lighter wheels and non-rfs mostly to cut down a bit on weight.

You'll enjoy the lighter weight in better acceleraton. You won't be gettin' no Cadillac ride but you won't have your butt jarring gokart ride anymore either.

I have Dunlop Star Specs and Contpremiumcontacts. The difference in stick in autocrossing is unmistakable. The difference in usable grip on the street is all but non-existant except in emergency conditions.

I do have Dunlop RFs. I hear a lot of bad things about the Continental runflats.. is there much difference? In any case they are doing the job for now, but weight reduction is definitely the motivator for me. Just can't justify the cost while I have so much tread left!
