Hello all,
I recently bought a pristine 08 6 speed Sidewalk convertible. Great little car; we have really been enjoying it...but after reading all this about the many problems the Minis have, especially the fires...

quote=pisco;3078433]So, is my 2008 MCS the 3rd R56 one on fire?
I was able to put it off with a small bottle of water. It was somewhere under the oil filter. I think caused by two wires.
Happened driving back from work 0.8 miles from my office, so car wasn't even fully warmed up (although it was about 100 F yesterday).
Anyways, towed it to the dealer last night, and I haven't heard anything back (yeah, dealer doesn't disappoint )[/quote]

...I'm thinking about selling it. I'm scared to leave it in the garage now. All thoughts/info appreciated.
Sorry my first post wasn't all peaches and cream

Joe, just my 2¢ but the number/percentage of cars that have had serious issues is so small when you consider the thousands of MINIs that are sold annually. We've had four MINIs and haven't had any major issues. We take care of them, keep up on maintenance, and enjoy the heck out of them. Granted they're not for everyone but I really think as long as you've had the car checked out and you take care of it you've got nothing to worry about. Good luck...hope you enjoy it. What part of Mississippi? I grew up on the coast.

Your post was just fine! Plus, might I say, YAY! Another Cabrio owner!! Listen, about these past issues, true some people have had them. But like the wise DooBahDoo said, you must consider the odds on such an event taking place. There have been loads of MINI owners who have had no troubles at all (aside from maintenance and other non-issues). ENJOY your new MINI and don't live in fear of it. It would be like expecting a meteorite to land on your head every time you went out. Keep it, and enjoy your wonderful new ride.

Remember one thing... one of the main purposes of a forum like this is to ask questions when you have a problem. It's inevitable that you will read about a myriad of issues. The main thing to keep in mind is that for every person who has an issue there are a whole lot more that have a mostly trouble free experience with their car.

Go to similar websites for any car and you'll see the same thing.
