I think Gum-out is like STP....basically just disesl/jet fuel, repackaged.....it is an old mechanics trick...ask a REAL OLD TIMER.....it does help injectors and it does dislove varnish...BUT-IMO there are better things out there. Besides...it is a huge mark-up to pay 2$ a pint.
Just to make sure I understand, gumout does work but I would be better off buying techron or seafoam?

If I use the seafoam, should I follow the directions as is: 1/3 can into the gas tank, 1/3 into the engine/oil, etc...
Or just put the entire can into the gas tank?

As for oil, I'll just use Redline or Purple Royal.

Thanks.

Most people here just put the sea-foam in their gas....some have done the in the oil....I personaly would not for fear of damaging the seals, etc. Gum-out should be fine....no reason not to use it IMO. If you own it, try it and see if you see a differance!!
After doing some reseach, I can add Amsol oils to the high zinc list for drivetrain protection too. RedLine and RyoalPurple are also well respected products from what I hear.

I'll bring this back around - I've been thinking about adding an oil catch can to my R-50 -

another question, Would adding a catch can cut down on emissions?

I use seafoam. I'll put a can into a full tank of gas and put half a can into the pcv valve and wait for 30 minutes then start the car. makes a lot of smoke but from what I have heard from others and have seen for myself it seemed to help. Check this link out, it is very helpful with seafoam and check out the dyno chart done by a member. gained 10hp doing the seafoam.

Most likely It would have a minimal effect from what I know. A catch can is there to catch the vaporized oil in the lines, and lets it condense before it is returned to the motor to be burnt. It helps to keep the inter-cooler cleaner...and many folks catch mostly water...with some oil. Failure to regularly empty a catch can can result in an engine failure. I'm not sure how it would help the r50, but it would give you some bragging rights, and some engine compartment bling!!

I finnally got around to using some seafoam a month back and good god did it need it! I put half into the gas tank and half into the pvc valve and let sit for about 20 mins. Started him up and smoked for half an hour! Not just little puffs either but massive clouds! My friend seafoamed his mini as well. We had my entire street fogged out. We were reving our engines, blowing out smoke rings, had smoke everywhere within a 50 foot radius. This old lady drove by and gave us the nastiest look lmao.
Love it.
