New car woes
New car woes
We got our Clubman S two weeks ago and within that time I backed into another one of our cars (luckily no damage to Clubman) and my wife drove to a Garlic Festival where she drove through a muddy parking lot and coated the whole undercarriage and sides of he car with mud.
Tonight I come home and she tells me she curbed a custom wheel while her mom helped her parallel park.
I remember when we bought our first new car, a 2006 Dodge Charger RT, it got keyed 2X and an automatic gate at my wife's work closed on it as she was driving through.
Anyone else want to share their horror stories to make me feel better?

Yeah, stuff happens. Best just to accept that it happens and then blow off some steam on some twisty roads.
Sometime last year while driving home from church, I was following a car on the highway. We got to a part of the highway that was curved and cresting so I didn't see anything beyond the front car. Well, wouldn't you know it that the car in front would drive over what seemed like a 12"x12" piece of thin particle board. Kinda like the stuff chalkboards are made off. That thing came flying from underneath the car spinning vertically and aimed right at my windshield. No chance to dodge so I just took the hit. Luckily it arced downwards and hit someplace below the car. That thing shattered into a dozen pieces, and it was weird cause those small pieces came up to hood and spun for a few secs in front as if the aerodynamics of the car created a buffet of air that was keeping those pieces spinning there. Anyways, after getting home, I looked for some damage. Sure enough, I did get hit. It had hit the bottom lip and lower grille. The lip and grill had some scratch marks but looks like the clear bra managed to protect the front. The grille did get knocked off its tabs and pushed in a bit. Nothing a coat hanger couldn't pull back out of though.
And then 2 weeks ago while driving on another highway, I just barely looked at my driver's side rear view mirror to make sure it was clear to pass the car in front of me. Then all of a sudden..BANG!! Something had flew and hit my windshield. Never saw what it was but it sounded huge. It made a half dollar size bulls-eye type of crack on the lower passenger side of the windshield. Went to Kragen to buy their repair kit and sealed it up to prevent it from spreading. So far so good. Doesn't look like the crack has gotten any bigger. But then when I went to wash the car a few days later, I noticed a dime size straight scratch in the paint on the hood. Looked like whatever hit my windshield had hit my hood first and cut right into the paint down to the metal. Nothing to do about that but touch it up. Still looks like there's a glob of paint on there as I can never get touch up paint to look right.
Oh well, minor imperfections comes with driving the car, I guess. Just gotta live with it. Thankfully every time I get in the car and drive it, it still has that sense of fun that outweighs whatever cosmetic damage happens.
