I need new brakes on my 05 Mini S. The dealer tells me that pads and rotors all around will be $1,000. My local tire store tells me that they would charge $650. I want brakes as good as the ones that were the originals, although they created a lot of brake dust, but $1,000 seems like a lot of money at the dealer. How do I handle this?

Is the dealer throwing in 4hrs labor @98$/hr or some rediculus thing like that?
Can you do it yourself? Are they including replacement of the brake fluid with that price? What do the parts alone cost? Look into Moss mini or other sites that sponsor NAM for the parts cost.
