Hello everyone

i am brand new to this site but i have a question for you folks!! i have a bad right side cv/axle on my 2004 cooper S WITH JUST 43000 MILES , warranty is out and my dealer wants over $1000.00 to repair it!! is that correct??
i have a mechanic who says he can fix it if i buy the part but where is the best place to buy these parts and what should i expect to pay? also the power steering pump was leaking a lot of fluid and the dealer said it could cost over $800.00 to repair at which point I almost needed some OXYGEN!!!
IS THIS CORRECT? anyway i went to the discount auto parts store and they suggested that i try some LUCAS POWER STEERING LUBRICANT AND SEALER WHICH I DID and i was amazed to see that the fluid puddles / ponds under my car have stopped forming and practically gone away after just a week.. did I do a stupid thing or not???
ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED..THANKS
