All Aboard the Undine! Departing Southhampton 12/2/08
Sorry about that, didn't see it till After my post. W&W ships do carry more than MINI's, they also carry BMW, Volvo, Porsche, Honda, etc. They also (at least in part) own the vehicle distribution center...at least the ones at Brunswick and California...and seem to be in charge of transport from the VDC to the dealerships...either by rail or truck. I have not been able to find any information at all on that transport. I am now at the mercy of the dealership. Vista MINI which is just NW of Fort Lauderdale...and about 600 miles from Brunswick. It will all depend on how quickly it gets through the VDC....I have read that the longer it is at the VDC, the greater the chance is of damage occurring during transport, with the extra time in making the proper fixes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and hoping it leaves quickly....mine got on ship 11/25...scheduled arrival Brunswick 12/9, but arrived 12/7. A few more days (hopefully) to total woooohoooo........
By the way....www.marinetraffic.com....GREAT site.....once the ship is close to the port, you can watch it real time @ Halifax and NY.

I was also thinking about the double-whammy that is extra time spent at the VDC. Not only does it mean it takes longer to get your MINI... it also means the the MINI may have sustained notable damage on the boat
I think the sailwx site is showing some improvement now on the ships progress, or am I just imagining this??
We had 40 mph wind gusts all day yesterday I wonder if the UNDINE is fighting those now?

I can't access the pictures or the tracking site from work.
If anone has spare time on their hands and wants to check on my ship I'd be ever so grateful!
Mine is aboard the Tourcoing which is a WW line ship. It left Southampton on the 5th and is due to NYC on the 13th.
I haven't tracked it since it left the Southampton port tracking site.
I hope she's not getting sea-sick or anything!

Wannab, I tried to look for tourcoing but nothing came up- it showed an old journey from last July is all. But I am not the most technically savvy person with this stuff so someone else might have better luck, I do recall that there was a stage where we were unable to track our Undine and maybe you are still far enough out not to be tracked yet.
I feel like a kid waiting for Santa!!

OK, according to Sailwx, the Undine was at N 45°00', W 050°42' at 18:00, which translates to 1pm est. When I obsessively map this out on Google Earth, it shows 533 miles to Nova Scotia, which is still a hike. Tomorrow is looking unlikely. Grr.
At 00:00 on Dec. 19th the Undine is reporting a 45 knot wind from 260, so it is basically a direct headwind, oh and the waves are at like 23 feet. If wind affects boats like it does aircraft then it could be a long last 500 miles.
Okay, according to the vessel tracker it looks like Undine's scheduled stops have been adjusted to reflect their problems with high winds at sea:
Halifax 12-11
New York 12-13
Baltimore 12-15
Charleston 12-17
Brunswick 12-18
Hang in there, Mini's!!

(BTW, I updated the first post with your new info!)
I keep catching myself thinking of our mini's at sea, buffeted by harsh winds and then I start humming Hang On Sloopy..... I was born and raised in Ohio. So! It is official, unless something changes after I see him/her my mini has now been named -------

My wife and I are waiting for a similar "epiphany" resulting in the perfect name for our MINI as well!Congrats on finding a unique name!
It's now due into NYC on the same day as Tourcoing, the ship my MINI is on, is due there.

The weather forecast is calling for more high winds in the area, wonder if that will affect the ship's progress again?
On the bright side it looks like the Undine is closer to land and maybe protected from the winds......

blainestang....hope this helps
Thanks!
I actually posted the schedule for the Undine in the first post
It is interesting that there is a stop in Baltimore. I guess there must be a VDC there... either that, or the Undine is carrying more than just MINI's.
Also, is VISTA MINI in Miami? I'm really interested to see when you actually RECEIVE your MINI compared to when it arrived in Brunswick... because mine is scheduled to reach GA just 10 days later, as you posted.
I hope for your sake (and mine) that it's a quick process from Brunswick to your garage

BE STRONG..
So in an attempt to answer you question....of how long from port to dealer...so many variables...for me...QUICK....ship arrived Brunswick on Sunday Dec 7, but I'm sure had to wait till 12/8...VDC is closed on Sunday.

If mine makes it through that quickly, I may just have it in time for Christmas!
BTW, Thanks for the info, and Congratulations... and post some pics when you get a chance.
MORE INFO....
Port of Halifax...
http://www.portofhalifax.ca/english/...tusreport.aspx Gives you current info on ship schedules.
NY Port (really in NJ) try www.firstnynj.com You have to be windows based in order to access...will not work on a Mac, which I found out. Best I found is Marinetraffic.com, but is AIS tracking, so only works when ship is close to the port...and Vesseltracker.com....you can use it along with Google earth to track ships real time at any port....you can search by ships name...but again, AIS...so must be within a certain distance to the port for it to appear. If you are going on to Charleston Port....
www.port-of-charleston.com/Vessel_schedule.asp for Charleston arrivals...
Brunswick was more difficult and complicated....if you need that, let me know. Might be best to use Vesseltracker.com or Marinetraffic.com.
Good Luck!!! Hope Christmas comes early for you. I'll post photos and hope you do the same. Thanks again for letting me ride on the coattails of your ship.
Thanks for the Congrats....no one answered posts for my production week or my ship....even though you were a different ship....it was nice to be able to go back and forth with someone who understands the obsession. Anyway...I did a lot of research, and found some good info that I am passing along....
And I'm glad you could pave the way for our MINI in a couple weeks and get my hopes up that the VDC and dealer will get it to me in time for Christmas. I told my wife it's her Christmas present, so it would be nice for it to get here. Oh, and we have a road trip planned to the Dragon for just a few days after Christmas, so the MINI is kind of an integral part of that

I'll definitely be taking and posting plenty when ours arrives... hopefully some on the Dragon, as well.
[QUOTE=Blainestang;2586072]Well, I'm glad you could participate since no one responded to your threads about Week 46 or the Toledo. That's really strange.

Congrats to your wife as well! What a Great Christmas present!
And a road trip to top it all off! Not familiar with the Dragon....
what part of the states are you in? My only confirmed road trip as of
now is driving off the dealers lot...
which I am happy to settle for....
for now.

The Dragon is a section of US 129 that has 318 curves in just 11 miles!
It's in Tennessee/North Carolina, and there is an annual MINI get together there... and it is very popular with many other Motorcycle and Car groups.
Here's the section of NAM for the 2009 MINI's on the Dragon (MOTD) Event:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ay-3-2009-307/
BTW, we're near Tampa, FL, but we've got a family event in Tennessee over New Year's and so we figured we should take the MINI and visit the Dragon while we're there!

Hey, thanks, cabwy! I lost track of it since it left Southampton. I could never find it on that site.
It's closer to Maine...too bad they couldn't just swing by and drop off my MINI on their way by!
