Tires

I bought A 04 Mini w/ 59000 mls on it, I love it but this will be my first winter with it, I live in the western Ma. My concern is Do I need to get Snow tires or will the New All Season tires be Ok. and what snows will be best for my car. I had a All Wheel Drive Subaru before so I don't know What to Expect. any help will be Greatly Appreaciated. Also a new member to the Club.

Good to see another MA motorer! I've driven out to Becket and Williamstown in the winter in my MINI but never encountered any bad western-mass weather. There are plenty of posts out there and one of the more recent ones is:

If you are used to driving the Subaru with AWD then you may want snows, but if you've driven other non-AWD FWD cars and are used to them you'll probably be fine for at least one winter. I had one winter with all-seasons to discover their limits and then decided to get snows and have been very happy I did [and you probably get more snow than Boston does...] If you've got the money, you will be happy if you get snows, but otherwise I'd suggest trying the all-seasons first.

If your recent winter driving experience is a subaru, expect to be underwhelmed by the MINI in snow wearing the performance or all season tires. I recommend the steel wheel packages through tirerack.com. I got blizzak revo1 package. looks like this model is not currently offered, but Alex is their MINI specialist. he will steer you the right way. 888-541-1777 x294
We had a subaru legacy wagon dressed in blizzaks prior to our 06 MINI and live in central NY state. With Blizzaks on packed snow you will be unstoppable in your MINI. in unplowed stuff- more than 4 inches- and you will stumble on hills.
