Smoother ride for the MINI Clubman
Smoother ride for the MINI Clubman
I just purchased the Mini Clubman S 2009. It came with 17” alloy wheels, 5 star pace. I do not know much about wheel and tires but I am assuming there has to be a wheel/tire that provides a smoother ride over road expansion joints and older side streets. Since the car is new I am looking to trade them back to the dealer for something that will provide a smoother ride and still get around in the winter (all weather?) Also, should I stay with 17” or move to 16”? I would like some suggestions to take back to the dealer. Can you please help?
Well, if you have run-flats, get rid of them and replace them with regular tires. You will notice a slightly softer ride immediately. I'm not sure how small of a wheel you can go with the Clubman S. If you can do a 16" wheel, with regular tires, you'll feel more improvement.
Different stuts will also make a huge difference.

I have a Clubman with the 15" Spoolers, and it rides a little bumpy and you can feel the road joints. I am actually looking to go the opposite direction you going --- I want to put 17" wheels and standard (non runflat) 205/45/17 All Season Cooper Zeons on my Clubman. It's a mini, it's supposed ride rough. Good luck with your ride adjustments. I'd stay with your 17" wheels, though. Putting on an a standard 17" tire wil substantially "smooth" things out for you.
Scarlile, congrats on your new Clubman, and stop in over at The Clubman forum sometime soon: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...play.php?f=168 You, too, TChezem.
