WHAT SHOULD SECOND SERVICE INCLUDE ?
WHAT SHOULD SECOND SERVICE INCLUDE ?
Hello Everyone !
I'm brand new to the forum - my first post, but I've been a Mini addict for years now, so I thought I'd join in. My question is: Tomorrow I'm taking my '06 in for it's second scheduled service (the first was basically just an oil change and new wiper inserts) and I'd like to know what it's supposed to include. My Dealer told me oil change, CVT fluid change, brake fluid change and a general inspection of a lot of things. I read in this forum that the coolant is supposed to be flushed every two years. My baby is two years old now with 28,000 miles on her. I know that my 3yr/36M mile free service period will have expired by the time for her next scheduled maintenance, so I want to make sure she gets everything she should be getting at this time. Can anyone out there tell me exactly what they should be doing at this service interval ? Thanks Much !!

OK...so I'll answer my own question. Took the car in on saturday and found out that the coolant gets flushed every FOUR years, not two, according to the SM. OK, so left the car (they gave me a ride home !) and got a call about five hours later with bad news and good news. The bad news was that they stripped the drain plug on the CVT tranny pan and had to order a new pan & plug. There goes my Mini for 5 days....The GOOD news is that they gave me a new '08 BMW 328i as a LOANER. What a beautiful, smooth car. Even though I miss my baby, now I don't mind if they take take their time

Yep - you were in for "Inspection I". Other than the oil, oil filter and tranny flush, the only other thing that gets replaced is the cabin air filter for the air conditioning (no positive all models have that one, though).
You're correct that your next service won't come due until after the 3/36k period has expired, but it's only going to be an oil change, anyway, so you're not missing out on much.
