premium gas only?

With premium gas being around $4.29 in my area, I am thinking about using Plus. But, the dealer and my friends who own MCSes say that I should only use premium. Does anyone know what would happen if I put Plus in my car? thank you.

There is a whole thread on this. It's a sticky at the top of the forum.

For the "Too long, didn't read" crowd, the sticky basically says:

Premium = full miles per gallon potential
Anything less = less miles per gallon

Anything less than premium is actually more costly per mile for you, and doesn't do your engine justice.

If you have a station that sells 91 you can get that. MINI requires 91 octane, not the 93 that most stations sell as premium. Now if you want to dance on that edge and fill up with 93, run it to half, then fill up with 89 to save a buck, then fill it half and half next time, you can do that.
I figure I can forgoe a latte a week and get my thrill from free coffee at work and that feeling you get merging on the highway in 4th at speeds above the posted limit that you just don't get to quite as quickly when your MINI isn't burning the good stuff.

Thanks everyone!

I read through six pages of the thread and still did not come to the part about gas. Thanks for saving me the time.

Guess, I'll stick with premium/supreme. Never thought it would cost me almost $60 to fill up my '06 MCS, but I don't have a choice.

less coffee more zip...

Thanks, misslindsey, I'll take your advice. I was trying to figure out a way to save some $$ and thought about lowering the octane.

My buddy's dad works for Mercedes and went into this whole diatribe about the virtues of buying regular.

Hey, we all fell your pain. The difference between regular and premium is only $0.15-$0.25/gal, which only adds up to $1.95 - $3.25 a tank. If you think of it that way and not how much it adds up to over a year it's a lot easier to deal with.

That's a whole lot better than the $125+ I would be spending per tank had I not replaced my '99 Lincoln Navigator with my '07 MCS! I put $52 in my tank the other day and was glad to do it when I thought about the alternative. I get a whole lot less laughs and "cute car" comments these days!

mind over matter

Hopefully, the prices will drop sometime soon. I'm planning my trips now so that I make the most out of each tank, but I guess I should be doing that anyway.
