service

Hi everyone......I'm new to posting anything anywhere so bare with me. I am from the Central Valley and I am in need of a mechnanic who does work on Minis. I've had some issues with my car that have fallen under warranty but now I am out of warranty and need help. My driver side window is stuck in the down position and we think it's the motor as the fuses are all intact. I've taken it to a windshiled/window company and they were unable to fix it OR even put the window up for me. Long story short anyone know of anybody in the Fresno/Clovis area that services Minis? I appreicate whatever input you may have. Thank you so much! c

Are you having the same problems you had while you were in-warranty, and if so, how far out of warranty are you? If you've had the motor replaced under warranty less than two years ago, then there's still warranty left on the motor, even though the warranty on the rest of your car has expired.

Well, since you're barely out-of-warranty, and we're not talking about a hugely-expensive repair like a new engine or new transmission, the dealer may be willing to "goodwill" the repair/replacement of the window motor.

There's a "grace period" after the expiration of the standard warranty where the dealer can perform the repairs at no cost to you, and then be reimbursed by MINIUSA. I've even heard of people getting out-of-warranty transmission replacements "goodwilled", so a new window motor isn't out of the question.

It wouldn't hurt to ask nicely - the worst the dealer can say is "no".

Give it a whack above the speaker. This may get it off the flat spot so that the motor will move. Won't solve the problem, but it will let you go a little further on that motor.

My boyfriend tried whacking it as that's what the service writer said to try.....it didn't work.....also....the trouble with my dealer is that they are 3 hours away from me......there is no dealer or service center in the central valley......and any one of them is a minimum of 3 hours from me.......it makes for a two day trip pretty much and with gas prices as they are a costly trip.....don't get me wrong I LOVE driving my car.....but I feel sorta stuck......

Well, if it is out of warranty, you would be better off taking it to a local mechanic and having the motor replaced. A dealer will cost way too much... Window motors are not that hard to replace and the MINIs are known to go bad after a while.
