Intermittent windshield wiper problem

I love my 2005 Mini convertible but once last year and several times in a recent rainstorm my windshield wipers stopped mid-swipe. Pretty frightening. Each time I turned off the engine and turned it back on the wipers worked. But not a good thing when you're driving on the freeway! Took it in for service as I purchased extended warranty. Of course problem didn't show up when techs were working with the car. And I was told they can't fix the problem if it doesn't show up for them. Anyone else had a similar problem?

wind shield type?

What kind of wind shield do you have? More appropriately, do you have a rain sensing wind shield? Check the connections to the sensor. Did you have your windshield replaced recently? Go back to the installer.

windshield wiper problem

I don't have a rain sensor windshield but did have the windshield replaced less than a year ago. Could that be the problem?

Try the connection to the motor

I can think of only two other places to look: Try the windshield wiper motor connection, see if it is coming adrift; The windshield wiper stalk may have a poor connection or may be faulty. I don't think the windshield replacement was the problem. I only shot that because I didn't know what type of windshield you had.

thanks

thanks for your replies. Sounds like connection may be the problem. At least I can sound more knowledgeable when I try to talk to the techs.
