6 Days and counting!!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to stop in and say Hi! I will be picking up my 2007 Cooper S (pepper white/black, stripes, cold/premium/sport pkgs) on Saturday, 9/22. This week is gonna be hard to focus!

I do have a question - I'm getting the car from Murray Mini (UT) and driving it back to Denver, CO. Should I be concerned about jumping in a new car and driving 500+ miles (virtually) non-stop at 60-70 mph?

I read somewhere that as long as you stay below 4K RPM and <=65mph, you are fine. Modern engines (especially BMW engines) are very resilient - still as long as you don't rev up a lot, you / engine are gonna be fine.

Page 76 of the mini manual (S):

https://ol.miniusa.com/publications/...NI_Hardtop.pdf

Moving parts need breaking-in time to adjust to
each other. Please follow the instructions below
in order to achieve the optimal service life and
economy of operation for your vehicle.
Engine and differential

Always obey all official speed limits.

Up to 1,200 miles/2,000 km
Drive at varying engine and road speeds, but do
not exceed the following:
> 4,500/min or 100 mph/160 km/h

Avoid full-throttle operation and use of the
transmission's kick-down mode.
After driving 1,200 miles/2,000 km

Engine and vehicle speeds can be gradually
increased

Hi Radfish,
I'm in the same boat as you. My MINI should be coming in this week also(it's at the VDC right now).I can definitely relate to the hard to focus issue.Otto's become my obsession.
Hang in there and remember, you're not going through this alone.

Bill

Congratulations!

Remember, when new Mini recommends varying the engine speed on long trips. Drop it in lower gear once in a while to keep from having the RPMs stay close to the same value for your whole trip.

You've given out the date and the route - expect state troopers in unmarked cars

Have a safe and fun drive back home

Congrats... nice MINI
Just vary speeds, keep revs under 4000 rpm or so, and just do the speed limit. You will be fine. Avoid jack rabbit starts and hards stops. More details will be in the manual you get.

Thanks everyone for good words!

Tomas - I didn't even notice miniphattys link until you commented...

Keep it low and somewhat slow/varied on the return trip. I had an Audi TT before this and the break-in instructions were pretty much the same (duh - small turbocharged high perf engines....).

I'll post some pics once I get back to Denver.

Cheers!
