For the all the P guys, every iteration of the 911 was faster on any given race track than the preceeding one. It also got more supple and had more of those dang creature comforts. Like A/C that worked, stereos you could hear, defrosters that actually defrosted!

The 356 guys said Porsche was dead to them cause of the 911.

All of that said, I happily sold my 930 yesterday as I wait for my MCS. Yep, different car altogether. I mean come on, with some people(semi-pros) getting an average of 0-60 in 5.7 sec with runflats and go-kart handling what's not to like.

YMMV

Congrats to the OP. What spec did you get?

I will. We live very near the Yorktown Battlefields, which are inhabited by two large deer herds (no hunting). My bosses car was nicknamed The Deerslayer. I definitely don't want to repeat my first encounter with deer, came up over a rise on the Interstate and there were five deer in a line from the shoulder to the guardrail. I managed to miss two of them

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's left the Pcar world for a MINI. I actually took less flak at work today than I expected.

Spec? MCS, LB, lsd, sport, cold weather, MFSW, other?

~18 hrs, but who's counting?

I didn't actually leave the P cars entirely as I have a couple of old Porsche race cars sitting around here. But they're like wives: One's just right and 2 is too many.

Sounds like a sweet ride. 18 hrs, huh? Very cool.

I am hoping to get another 911 in a few years, but this one will be a project car - the project I wanted to do this time. I've always wanted a 73 RS (clone). It would be a weekend track/autocross toy, so my wife wouldn't have to deal with it (other than looking at it ).

Your wife needs to borrow my wife's attitude for a while. Points out that I'm spending too much time in the garage and not on the race track. She's a bit of a track junkie. RS clones are nice. What about backdating a 78-79 with a long hood, strip out the weight and get the killer SC reliability? It's an English(GB) thing.

Either way, have a great drive tomorrow.

JustJay is right. About 3yrs ago I went a New Years early morning twisty run in Cali with an LA Porche Club. It was funny to them at first, but once we hit the canyons the laughter was over. The Mini's ownes the curves and kept pace in the short straights. I myself indirectly caused a Classic (looking)Porche Speedster to run off the road. He was trying to hard to stay well ahead of me and lost control. Once he got out of the weeds and on the road he just left. To embarrassed to speak to anyone. In fact at least two Porches wiped out that day trying to save face. Only pride was hurt.

You're lucky, my wife is not a car person.

I've seen some of the write ups on backdating the long hood cars in Total 911. It looks interesting, get the improved corrosion protection (most of the early 911s I came across were rust buckets), larger engine, etc. I'll have to do some more research before I actually get into the project. Another option would be to buy someone elses project, but that could open a whole new can of worms.

The dealer offered a little less than what I would have jumped at from a private party. Considering that the only responses to my ads were "Advertise here for only $20 and reach morte enthusiasts.", I was happy with what the dealer offered.

Yeah, I love the giant killer aspect. I've autocrossed long enough, mostly in a Miata, to realize that it is more driver than car. There is something distinctly satisfying about blowing high dollar vehicles into the weeds with something (relatively) low cost.

Only 8 hours to go!!

Someone elses project is always cheaper than your own. Always. Don't ask me how I know.

He could tell you, but then he'd have to leave the driver's seat

Great!! My wife likes it and actually drove part way home. See https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...02#post1583202 for a picture. I was running out of light for more pictures.

rob, congrats, nice looking car!

chow, +1, but he probably didn't know how under-powered/under-suspended/under-braked the car he 'beat' was.

Similar issue, Im dumping my Cayenne turbo for a new MCS that I ordered on Friday. Wife thinks i'm nuts, but I know that I may never get the Mini back when she drives it. Best f luck on the outcome

I'm 99.9% in agreement with that sentiment. However, if someone says to you while you wre looking at their project "We have the technology to fix that." Do not walk, but RUN AWAY as fast as you can. Don't ask me how I discovered that!

You're a Mini owner now.

You're not crazy.

You're eccentric!

Next step, get the wife to try her hand at an autocross. I'm lucky, my wife was chomping at the bit to attack the cones.

I tried to get her into autocross when I had the Miata, but no dice. Maybe now.
