Howdy and welcome! Hate to be the 10th person to tell you this, but I don't know yet! Haven't been through a winter yet.
Most often people here say that with snow tires they have no problems at all and are quite comfortable driving in any conditions. Some others say the all seasons are fine. I hope the latter is correct (don't really have anyplace to store extra tires!)
If you search around, maybe search the forum for "snow tires", you'll find lots of discussion on this.

you'll be able to see local events in the area.
2nd ... if your going to be traveling on country roads where plowing is minimal, you'll need snow tires. Otherwise, all-seasons should be fine.
As mentioned ^ keep the DSC on
This was my 2nd winter (in the north 'burbs)... the only time I almost got stuck was trying to park on a Chicago sidestreet after that big storm in JAN. During the last 2 big storms, I was able to drive through without any issues. Slow and steady! oh.. and e-brake turn in empty, unplowed lots

Welcome to NAM!
I drove Sgt Pepper through most of the bad weather last winter, and except for a wavering semi tractor which ran me into a ditch, he did fine in the snow. I'm pretty cautious with ice and stuff, but I have run-flats and low profiles (spell that 'hard') and we did okay! Front wheel drive and keep your wits on and you'll be okay. I don't have an opinion one way or the other about the DSC. hth
Hi! Welcome to NAM!
Here in Missouri, my MINI putts right on down the road. Even in ice. (I keep the DSC on during rains and snows.) The only thing I have trouble with is our .07 of a mile of graveled road to our house...the unplowed snow build up is not good for a low MINI. But where they've plowed...Yahoo!!! Freedom!

AGGHHH, the insurance thing again! There is a thread posted by carguy101. He is about the same age as you, honor student...all that. Seems he was quoted around 1800.00 if I remember right. Dont know what coverage that is though. You might want to go on-line an look around, and call several local insurance agents to get a quote. The MINIs cost more to insure than the Z3 and Z4 BMWs though, I can tell you that. Best of luck to you....and with the DSC on, they do pretty good, about the same as other front wheel drives do. Its the clearance that you have to deal with, oh yeah and the other drivers that "dont see" you.
Can't help with your insurance question... ^^ as mentioned, check around for the best rate you can get. Your age and martial status is working against you.
The **** can be replaced with a smaller one if the stock one is too big.
I don't have big hands, but the **** is fine for me. Drove to the Dragon twice... haven't had the need to change it.
