Rebuilding a modern tranny IMO is best left for a pro...folks HAVE done it...but sounds like there are some issues other than clutches that may have "HURT" some parts that may need to be found and replaced to do a full rebuild....

if you search for the thread i left a bit from...you can see what you would deal with WITHOUT replacing broken metal...
Amazing info! My guess is you've saved me headache and heartache.

I'll get it done by a reputable shop who has experience with the aisin!

05 -6 vs. 07 08 09 10 Auto 6 speed

So, before I bite the bullet and spend the 5150.00 for the rebuild and warranty and labor, can anyone tell me the key difference between the 6 speed automatic that goes in my 05 MCS and the 07 and up version of the tranny?

As I look on Ebay they are much less expensive, therefore they must be different, but they look exactly the same...

...if I could put a good used one in instead of a rebuild and replace a computer, I might be apt to go that way...

...the other confusing thing is that some of them are listed compatible from 05 to 10 and some only say 07 to 10.

Thoughts from this wonderful community of experts?

Thanks in advance.

Think what I recall from a prior discussion is it will not bolt up....but beyond that the ratio's on a tranny from a turbo are very different...
Remember...the motors on the gen1 are 100% different and incompatible....
And folks use the term gen1 cause the r53 motor and tranny continued on in the r52 cabrio s till 2008....so many parts books are a mess, just as the r50 motor and tranny continued on in the r52 cooper till 2008....
