Sensor?

I have 2003 MCS with 79K. Is there a sensor that causes the Power Steering fan to turn on? Could a bad sensor cause the fan to not go off even when you turn off the car?

Thanks for any help!!!

r u sure it is the power steering fan?

or is it the radiator fan that is staying on?

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed a time or two . . .

I'm with Capt BJ. Normally the problem is with the radiator fan or the power steering pump, not the ps fan.

Lot's of people have problems with both... for the radiator fan most of the problems are the low speed fan resistor going bad. As for the power steering fan the common failure for that would be seizure. I only knew that mine went out because I have a convertible and when the p/s fan fails it also causes your parking distance sensors to not work. My mechanic said failing to fix would lead to problems with the pump. My radiator fan is next to be replaced because the low speed isn't working. So I'm thinking you must be hearing the radiator fan. If you do a search on either you'll pull up lengthy threads.

I was wrong it is the ps pump itself. It will not shut off. The power steering is functioning. Is the only fix to replace the pump?? I have been disconnecting the battery when I'm not driving it.
