This was just following the directions and very nice wiring harness supplied by Crutchfield. The radio did not function with that red wire unplugged. Just need a switched fuse I think.

You were probably following directions for a MK2 MINI where the Ignition On is not supported by the harness, instead it is a message sent over the MOST bus. So a wiring mod is required for aftermarket radios for MK2.

Reviving this somewhat dead thread. I did a bit of searching, with not much like. I decided to have another go and found the link below. As far as I can tell, it's the product I need. As to where to get it? Beats me lol.

I got the PAC from Crutchfield for my Alpine head unit.
It needs 3 wires hooked up then a simple programming.
