When I posted to this thread a while back, I didn't include pictures of mine which I chose to mount down on the console next to the mirror controls. (where the heated seat switches would be if I had them).
This is a really good location I find since my phone, which I use for podcast, lust sits on the passenger seat, this jack location is short, simple and out of the way; the cable doesn't have to run up by the shifter as it would if I put it in the switch bank. I don't even know how the cable would run if I mounted the jack in the gloe box; that would seem kinda' awkward.
This location was easy to run. Just had to take up the center console.
Yep. i had to get one of these too. Just do a search for "ground loop isolator" and you should find a bunch for $6 to $12.

Not sure what to tell chdrake. I think the GLI only affects charging, but it might be worth a shot.

2) Plug in the aux audio
The Aux won't appear until it detect the impedance of the audio player at the aux port. This detection can be disrupted by the GND potential difference between the radio and the cigarette lighter when charging.

No navigation.
Do I need to add a ground loop isolator? I've looked for one at several Radio Shack's with no luck. Saw some cheap ones online, but I don't want to be to cheap.
Thanks again.

Harumph. Unfortunately the best way to confirm is to take your aux-in and plug it into another HU with a known working aux-in. If it doesn't work, you know the aux-in is somehow faulty. The reverse (plugging that aux-in into your head unit) would also apply.
Where are you located?
I can send you a known good aux-in, but if it's the HU, then you'd need to replace that next. I hate unexpected results!

I just bought a 2006 R53. The previous owner had Mini install the "MINI Hands Free System with Bluetooth Wireless Technology" (this: http://motoringfile.com/howto/offici..._bluetooth.pdf).
My question is can I still install the Aux input with that in place? Or would I have to remove the bluetooth to install the Aux?
Thanks!

Something very interesting...I have an 03' MCS, February 03' build with Navigation and H/K. My car did NOT have the existing connector in the "empty" slot like everyone else with NAV. My AUX connector plugged right in and works fine. My NAV works fine too. Same mute function when directions are given.
Does anyone know why my car does not have this connector, but the other ones do? Very strange...
OK, after thinking about it, I don't think I have these connectors here because I have the H/K system. My mute signal is probably sent to the H/K amp instead. That's where those two wires are.

Does this hold true for minis with HK and NAVI? I want to install the aux kit, but would like to know if other owners with the same specs experienced this as well before I start the work...thanks in advance.

I had HK and navi, and I took the aux kit and removed the wires from the black plug and plugged them into spare slots in the black plug attached to the nav, etc. Kind of hard to explain and I think someone has already done a better job of covering how to combo both sets of wires (no splicing req'd) into one black plug. Everything works together and so far I've never had a problem with HK, navi or aux working together.
