DME high RPM / over-rev snitch?
I've been experimenting with the BMW/MINI Tool32 software recently (it allows you to have a low-level conversation with the various ECU modules in the car), and have run across something interesting.
My DME (MEV172) has a job called "status_amuene". This looks like it reads the maximum RPM recorded by the ECU (and also the odometer reading when it occurred). Here is what I get when I run it on my car:
In English, this seems to say that my maximum rev reading was 6737 rpm (STAT_NMAX) but the corresponding odometer reading (STAT_KMSTNMAX) is 0.0 - maybe because I've never significantly over-revved my car. I'd be curious to know what other people get when they try this function. Especially if you have seriously over-revved your engine, I'm curious to see if an odometer reading gets stored.
To try it out: in Tool32, load the correct SGBD file for your DME (usually MED17_2.prg for MCS models and MEV17_2.prg for JustaCoopers), select the "status_amuene" job, and then hit F5. The response should appear in the "Results" window.
Oh, and in case you were wondering: there does not appear to be a function to reset these values.
