This article applies to the Mini Cooper (2001-Present).

Mini Coopers are no strangers to the track; in fact, they are generally known for their lightweight frame and superior handling. However, these attributes do not mean much without a good set a tires. Fortunately, Mini Cooper owners have a large selection of tires to choose from. These tires can offer anything in terms of increases in overall performance, or of a few select attributes such as cornering power and wet traction. It's important to note, however, that all tires are not all made from the same rubber. There are compounds present that although may perform extremely well on the road, can have also have a decreased lower tread wear rating and perform differently via the season. So it's important to pick out tires not only on their overall rating, but on their compatibility with your style of driving and the climates you experience while using them. With so many options, it's pretty easy to get overwhelmed, which is why we've comprised a list of some of the best models available on the market.

Pirelli P Zero

Price – $130

Size – 17" - 22"

Performance – Max Summer

Lifespan – Good

Warranty – None

Pirelli is no stranger to the tire market; in fact, P Zeros were used as stock options on cars such as the Lamborghini Murcielago and Aston Martin DB8. Made up of a silica and carbon compound, these tires preform best in warmer environments. Its asymmetric design allows water to flow through with ease, and helps prevent against hydroplaning, all the while increasing its overall traction. A huge downside to this tire is its tread life. With no tread warranty, you can end up replacing these tires a lot more quickly than you would want. Recommended for those looking for a good set of Max performance summer tires.

Bridgestone Potenza REO50A

Price – $175

Size – 17" - 20"

Performance – Max Summer

Lifespan – Good

Warranty – None

The Potenza series tires preform fairly similar to the P Zeros mentioned above. While the asymmetric tread designs offer increased traction in wet environments, overall corning stability and steering response is also improved. The drawback is its tread life expectancy. Although you will have an increase in overall performance, there will be a decrease in tread life, which coupled with the lack of warranty, can be problematic. Recommended for those looking for a a decent set of summer tires.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport

Price – $170

Size – 17" - 22"

Performance – Max Summer

Lifespan – Better

Warranty – 6 years/30,000 miles

The Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires are arguably the best tires available on this list. They are comprised of a Michelin Bi-Compound design, which utilizes two different materials to make a balanced wet/dry tire. Pilot P2s have shown their worth by being used in countless track events lasting an average of 300 race miles per set. The only drawback to these tires are, like all summer tires, they perform poorly in cold weather and on icy roads. Although, that should not be a problem If you live in relatively warm conditions throughout the year. Recommended for those looking for the best summer tires or live in a relatively warm climate.

Yokohama Advan Sport A/S

Price – $99

Size – 17" - 20"

Performance – Ultra All Season

Lifespan – Better

Warranty – 5 years/50,000 miles

Although Pilot P2s are very good, the Yokohama Advan Sport series are nothing to scoff at. The only all-season tires on the list, these actually perform fairly well in colder environments. The circumferential grooves on the tires allows water and snow to easily escape, while the synthetic polymers and silica compound allow for increased wet traction. Another feature these tires have are the relatively low price point. Recommended for those who look for good all-season tires for performance all year long.
