Sub-Zero's or ASA AR1's on DS/B
Up until today I thought I wanted the ASA AR1's in 18s. After seeing pics of the Sub-Zero's and fjO's car with 18" Sub-Zero's i'm not entirely sure which wheel to go with. Any comments/suggestions/ideas. Also, if I were to go with the Sub-Zero's, what color would you suggest. I'm in-between Royal Steel Grey, Royal Black, Royal Gun Metallic, or Flat Black... Any pics would be VERY helpful. Thanks.

ASA AR1s buddy:thumbsup:

lol as of now i'm still leaning towards the ASA AR1's...

I have been bouncing back & forth between Rota's and the ASA AR1's myself. I have been looking more at the grids (Volk TE37 Knock off).
I have always loved the classic look of the Mesh wheel. It just is what it is, and they have an almost timeless, sporty look. I would like a dark center, (but not black) but they are only offered in silver at 16". ASA is licensed by BBS, just made in Asia for cheaper. I had a set of ASA's waaaay back in the day when i first got my miata, and I now have the JH6 on my wife's MINI. Good results with both. I have also used rotas since 1998-9 or so. Bought a set of the Circut 8's when they first came out and they were on the miata when i sold it last november. Only issue i ever had with those is i lost a center cap. (and the logo on the caps wore off...) Great rims. The colors on rotas are a bit off from other makes - Gun Metal is more like Black with a metallic flake in it, not really a "cast iron" color like a lot of other manufactures gun metal. The bronze is nice, but does have that JDM look. I actually have a set of 16" bronze Rota C8's that i was going to put on my RG car, but decided to go with what i really want. I will be ordering the ASA AR1's in a month or two. So, for me, the classic look of the AR1 wins out over some of the more recent wheel designs. Don't get me wrong, Sub Zeros are hot rims, they were on my short list as well. While I still do like the look of dark rims, etc, I can really see my MINI with mesh rims & me really enjoying that for quite a few years... good luck! -jac |
Just to give you an idea of what the Royal Gunmetal color will look like... it doesn't quite match up to DS or B but is somewhere in the middle. These are slipstreams.
http://www.simplygriff.com/Images/MI...r%20Corner.jpg I really dunno which rims I suggest They're so different. -G |
I'll let the images speak for themself. :)

Any other place to get the Rota's other than subydude.com that is reliable? They don't have the color I like in stock (Royal Steel Grey or Royal Gun Metallic)...

I have H&R coilovers waiting to be installed so the drop in the pictures is photochopped(fake) but it will be low when the damn spring comes, stupid winter! And the checkered roof is still on, 20% tint is coming in April as well. :) They are 18x7.5" (ET45) in Royal Steel Gray. 02///MCS, have you looked at www.18racing.com? |
I just bought a set of subzeros from Jaydm.com. They are reliable and ship quickly when the wheels are in stock.
|
I got mine from www.18racing.com I'd read this thread too.

I ordered my SubZero's from the Discount Tire about a mile from my house. They beat any online price I could find.
Also, I've heard from more than one source that they are competely out of stock (they being all sellers and distributors) of a few sizes and colors and it will be a long wait for new stock. |
I like the SubZero's but I wish they made then in bright silver

Like fj0 said, they come in silver which is a really light silver...
I'm thinking Royal Gun Metallic for my DS/B with black stripes front+back and taillight tints... I think it would match the "theme" well... What do you guys think? |

I have a DS/DS MCS and had the same thought as you. I went with the subzeros in Royal Gunmetal. I also bought theem from JAYDM. I love them. Check my gallery for more pics.

Stinger, I think the color goes well with our DS... Thanks for posting, now I KNOW what it'll look like rather than have to GUESS what it'll look like... BTW, what size rim/tire you running? 205/50/16 is my guess?
saakey, try searching next time...they have them on subydude.com, one of the first websites that pops up when your search for Rota Subzero... http://subydude.com/osc/product_info...7d7d85bb7ac651 |
I received my Rota 17" flat black Sub Zero wheels today. The center cap is that goofy faux carbon fiber with faux cap screws. Anyone know where you can get the ones in this picture? http://www.rotawheels.com/images/wallpapers/wp04.jpg

shaun5 your link isn't working....
|
I photoshopped Stinger's car (I hope he doesn't mind) to make the wheels bigger and give the car a drop... although my car has a black roof and stripes, this gives a good idea of what my car could look like..
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...a_Sub-Zero.jpg EDIT: P.S. How are my photoshopping skills?? This was a quick one so it's not perfect... |
I don't know what is up with the link. It is the red mini on the rotawheels website under the images....
|
02//MCS You are correct. I have 205/50/16 Falken Zeis 512 tires. I really like the photoshop pic of mine with the larger wheels/tires though. I thought long and hard about going bigger than the 16, but in the end decided I could find more tire sizes in 16 at better prices, keep the combination lighter weight and have better handling with 16 inchers.
|
Here's Stinger's other picture... the rim size and drop are pretty close to the real thing...
