I'm wheel stupid... please help.

So I've got a bone stock r53... I was looking around the forum and I came across this beautiful mini...

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...rs-on-r53.html

Unfortunately, I'm not baller enough to afford real bbs, but I really like the ESM 002R's... but my questions for you guys, are... what stagger, spacers, tires size, lowering options, etc do I need to be looking at to get close to the stance this guy has?

And before you ask... I didn't just ask him because he hasn't been active in almost a year. But any help you guys could give me would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

I know if you want to get low, you will want to get coil overs. I can't really tell but he might be stretching the tires to fit the wheels too, so to fit under

the arches.

Ask this question of Way at Waymotorworks.com, you will need to do suspension upgrades if you want to get this look.

The wheels can be extra wide such as 8" or more, the MCS shown has tire stretch which means he uses a narrow tire and stretches it on a wider rim. This forces the tire to be narrower on the treadside which helps to tuck in the tire shoulder for clearance. Sometimes you will need more negative camber to allow for more clearance, this means adding front adjustable camber plates and rear lower adjustable control arms.

Stagger is for RWD and some AWD cars, not for the MINI.

Offset is the amount the wheel will stick out vs OEM, these wheels are about 0.7 to 1" sticking out, hard to tell exactly since negative camber will help clearance.

If you buy wheels that can the correct offset you won't need spacers. Spacers move the wheel even farther outward, you will need longer wheel studs if you use spacers. APR wheel studs are good, and get some tuner lug nuts.

Wheels do not need to be super wide, you have to consider the tire size you want to use and what will work. A tire shop that does stretched tires can help you find the right wheel and tire size combo that will fit the MINI.

A wide wheel is a heavy wheel, you can get the "wider than stock look" with an aggressive offset. A flush look is a common goal.

Stock suspension has a wheel gap that is too large, you have to drop the suspension but if you use only lowering springs which are less costly, you make still have a little gap. Only fully adjustable coilovers will allow fine tuning of the ride height and give more clearance for the tires where needed. Cost of good coilovers are not cheap.

Finally, when you do all these things you will be chasing after a "look", not sure how your MINI will handle or ride, all depends on how you select your upgrades. Other owners will select the best tire, then a wheel to fit it, given their suspension and driving needs.
