http://www.motortrend.com/features/newswire/91/34980/ Quote: The new tire features the "Star Spec" tread compound, which helps a performance car's initial dry grip during sanctioned amateur driving events, such as autocross and high-performance track-events hosted by regional car clubs. "'Star Spec' means impressive dry grip out of the gate. Driving enthusiasts won't have to wait for their tires to 'come in' at the beginning of an event, helping to provide an edge over the field. This is also great news for owners of smaller vehicles, who sometimes struggle to work their tires up to the point of peak grip," Neidert said. Some good MINI sizes (all in stock- thank you Dunlop)- 195/55-15 $90 each 205/50-16 $107 each 205/55-16 $108 each 215/45-17 $125 each 200 treadwear V or W speed rated Extreme Performance Summer tire http://www.dunloptires.com/dunlop/gr...ull/163676.jpg Features: Benefits * Star Spec tread compound: Helps to improve initial grip during sanctioned performance driving events * High-response directional tread pattern with circumferential grooves: Helps create a consistent contact patch for a smooth feel * Optimal mold shape: Helps provide a consistent footprint shape and uniform pressure distribution for enhanced cornering * Jointless Band Technology™: Helps maintain the tire's structural integrity and enables smooth performance at highway speeds |

How are these different from the Direzza DZ1?
http://www.dunloptires.com/dunlop/gr...l/DIRDZ101.jpg Features: Benefits * High rigidity shoulder blocks: Help deliver maximum dry grip and cornering power * Silicarbon Matrix™ is a specially-formulated compound made of silica and carbon black: Enhances wet and dry traction * Directional tread pattern and two wide, straight tread channels with long, oblique grooves: Helps pump water out from under the footprint for excellent grip in wet conditions * Performance-inspired tread and sidewall design: Makes good-looking vehicles look even better * Jointless Band Technology™ with a spiral-wound cap ply: Helps maintain the tire's structure integrity and enables smooth performance at highway speeds http://www.dunloptires.com/dunlop/im...s/rule_red.gifMax Flange Shield® Helps protect rims from accidental curb damage http://www.dunloptires.com/dunlop/im...s/rule_red.gif5-Pitch Technology™ minimizes subjective and pass-by noise Enhances driving comfort Tire sizes available are different. Then also Direzza Sport Z1 http://www.tirerack.com/images/tires...t_z1_ci2_l.jpg This is special priced at tirerack.com and on closeout replaced by the Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec. Not many sizes left in stock now. 200 treadwear. Some of the tire weights may be heavier than the Star Spec version- complete new tire weights not available yet. The Direzza Sport Z1 features a unique high-grip tread compound molded into a directional design featuring notched, continuous shoulder ribs, large intermediate shoulder blocks and a wide center rib to deliver consistent contact with the road and enhance grip during cornering. Two wide, circumferential center grooves, wavy shoulder grooves and multiple lateral grooves provide water evacuation to enhance wet traction. The tire's internal structure includes two wide steel belts reinforced by a spirally wound JointLess Band (JLB) Technology polyamide to provide strength, uniform ride quality and high-speed capability while steel cord reinforced, 2-ply polyester sidewalls help resist lateral deflection to provide responsive handling and cornering stability. -------------- This all sounds similar and the tread pattern is close. The Star Spec tread compound might be the biggest difference. In any event you cannot buy the older version much longer. |
Whoohoo..they arrived at the door yesterday and man I gotta say they are WIDE for 215/45-17 and quite low profile!! I think a 215/40-17 in these tires would be a harsh ride.
Sitting next to a stack of 4 Avon Tech R's in 225/45-17...they are only about 1/2" shorter! Tread looks mean too! Cant wait to get them mounted! |
those are good looking tires.
|
review please!!
|
I've been looking at Direzza's for next tire,+1 for review.
I'd like to hear how your sidewalls feel (45 vs 40's) I'm running Kumhos on my SSR's 215/40/17 I'd like to take up a little space in my well with the 45's. -good looking tires.Review please:) |
I ordered a set of the 215/45/17 over the weekend. Can't wait! Can the Original Poster please post pics?!?!?
|
I ordered mine today, being installed Wed. I had a post over on another thread and CPAYNE responded:

I just installed a set of Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec 215/45/17 on a set of SSR Comp wheels today. The ride is awesome..not harsh at all (Koni Yellow Sport/TSW springs) and the performance so far is equally impressive.
|
Ok ok..sorry slackin here.
I got them installed on Saturday...and they are AWESOME. This granted, coming from 195 winter studded tires and previous runflats. But holy crap. With my Koni Yellow Sport and TSW springs and WMS XRSB, H-Sport Camber Plates and Rear control arms, this is a magical combination for road friendly set-up. I mean they are quiet..they are not harsh...the turn in is just nearly instant and really hold going off the line. Not to mention the 200 wear rating and relatively "cheap" price Go for it..you wont be disappointed! Few pics (BWW): http://www.worldsbeer.com/mini/P1010050.JPG http://www.worldsbeer.com/mini/P1010051.JPG |
These tires are looking very tasty indeed!
|
Very nice... I might have to snatch up a set for my new rims .
|
okay, i'm in. should be here and mounted within a week. my local sts guys gave me a better overall price vs. tirerack:) . i also got 215/45-17's. pics and reviews forthcomming:nod:

Any impressions on wet grip and hyroplaning yet?
|
They had exellent wet grip reviews on TireRack compared to other top tires.
|
Got mine on yesterday. Initial impression is the same as CPayne. The grip is awesome on curves & corners:thumbsup:, car feels like its on rails, but it is soooo much smoother and quieter  than the Dunlop 9000 RFs I had before. Need some rain to check wet grip and hydroplane resistance and am now just 12 days from heading for the Dragon.
