Selling my DOS CAI, with modified bulkhead. I took it off from my MC JCW due to smog check in CA like 3 years ago and it stays in the box since. The intake and filter are like new condition because it only stayed in the car for very short time. Other than the DOS sticker being removed because I don't like it. This is the best true CAI for R56 through R59s. It comes with the dry AFE dry air filter which is better than oil filter for minis.
From DOS's web site (No longer in business):
The R55, R56, R57, R58, & R59 MINI Cooper S (MCS) and MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) and have a major bottleneck to air induction due to the restrictive factory airbox. The Defenders of Speed Cold Air Intake (CAI) is specifically designed for the new, turbocharged MCS and Factory JCW models to maximize air induction and is a first step in maximizing combustion while aiding in reduction of inlet temperatures.
Our system pulls air from the factory air hose as well as the large, isolated, empty void behind the bulkhead panel between the brake master cylinder and the battery via a completely enclosed filter system.
The area where the hood meets the windshield is a high pressure zone at speed. This high pressure zone dumps cool air into the low pressure area behind the MINI's bulkhead panel through the factory air inlet vents at the hoodline via cowl induction*. (*A principle re-discovered and touted by GM in 1963 and used successfully to this day on race and street vehicles). Thus, with the DoS R55, R56, R57, R58, & R59 CAI system, a constant cool intake air supply is available to the intake.
With the CAI you also get the modified bulkhead so you can leave yours intact and the inlet cover if you want stealth noise levels.
what you see in the pictures is what you will get. The last picture is just to show how it looks in the car (Not my car)
$350 shipped to your door if you are in the lower Continents 48 states. Or you can just buy the intake without the bulkhead for $310 shipped. Only PM if really interested. Thanks.

What kind of work needs to be done to get the bulkhead in place?
you will need to remove the windshield wipers in order to remove the bulkhead, it’s pretty straightforward after that if you can remove the wipers. But you maybe able to remove the bulkhead without doing that, it's been a while, I'm sure you can find some videos about removing bulkhead.
I’ve removed the wipers before and replaced the cowlings so that’s not a big deal for me. With the intake being directed towards the cabin what kind of sound does it create? Do you hear more of the engine sound and do you have the large rubber grommet or whatever it is the fits in the round hole where the intake rests on the bulkhead?

Then that should be easy for you. You will hear a better woosh sound then the other aftermarket intakes as I can recall. If you want louder sound you don't want to add the round cover on the intake, if you want less sound that's what it does. The rubber grommet for the hole on the bulkhead is already installed in place. So everything works when you fit in all the parts. This's the best solution for the intake and the cleanest that we can get for the gen2 mini. If not the CA smog issue I would have used it as long as I can. Just feel lazy to do the install and reinstall.
You need to find a better smog shop! I don't mean an illegal one either. The smog guy I've gone to for the past 6 or so years has told me before that anything changed pre-MAF is fine. Post MAF is when it's iffy.
I have a cone filter slapped on the stock intake and it passes smog.
This guy is very thorough btw, he'll even check under the car for cats. I believe what he says!

Lol, I can say you are lucky to find a guy like that, but no luck for me as I have failed the smog because of it, in CA, any aftermarket part will need a CARB sticker else it's an auto fail. My guess is that you just changed the filter not the intake, so it doesn't matter too much. I'm just tired of this and don't have the well to do this anymore.
