Help - my brake lights won't turn off
I have an '04 MCS. Today I was driving back from an auto-x event and a buddy told me my brake lights were on constantly. They were working fine this morning on my way there.
I searched the forums and found threads for brake lights that weren't working at all, as well as just the third light lighting up. Both of those were chalked up to a faulty BC1 module. I didn't find anything for this though. I looked under the brake pedal to see if there was a switch down there that might have gotten stuck, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. Any ideas? |
Grab a flashlight, craw in under the steering wheel and look up under the dash along the brake peddle arm.
Somewhere there, should be a brake light switch. Typically these are attached with a plastic rod that actuates the switch anytime you press the peddle. Most likely this plastic rod has broken or slipped out of it's attachment. |
The brake light switch is on a mounting bracket, fairly high up and on the cabin side of the pedal, not the firewall side. It's #11 in this pic.

I don't know what the arrangement for your 04 is, but on the 06, the switch will move back and forth to make the fine adjustment. It it is this arrangment, then a little movement of the switch will fix your problem.

Seems simple enough - I'll check out the switch first thing in the morning. Thanks for the help!

Turns out it was a faulty brake pedal switch after all. My dealer fixed it under warranty. Thanks again for the advice!
