Drivers side door won't open from inside
 

Left a car show yesterday, in which the BRG was representing Mini's :)

Unfortunately once l left the show, l found l could not open the drivers door from the inside, outside worked fine.

I read on some of the forums about the bowden cable, so decided in 95 degree weather to attempt the interior door trim removal earlier today.

I found that one of the four hex screws was stripped, so l had to drill it out.

I snapped two of the white plastic clips when getting off the panel.

I then found the current bowden cable was missing some of it's protective wrapping.

Also found a large rubber circle gromet type piece that was laying in the bottom of the door sill.

Has anyone got any good diagrams on what the door should look like, and also how the actual bowden cable works.

Also need to find the replacement parts, found some white plastic clips from autozone, but they don't fit correctly.

Would also like to know, what keeps the operating pin rod, in the upright position? The actual interior trim l'm guessing?

Attached pics, parts wise l need a new hex screw for the right hand lower side of the trim, two of the white plastic clips, bowden cable possibly, and a new rubber circle gromet. Although not entirely sure where this is missing from.

How should l replace the bowden cable?

The "Bowden" cable is usually stretched, but sometimes the mechanism is bad...so eBay 3rd part units are junk and flex too much...
Look it over...I'd try the cable first the rest looks ok...
And a warning...since you need to OPEN THR DOOR to get the panel off the interior of the door off, be careful....

My suggestion...look at your other door...it's the mirror image.

Thanks Zippy, yeah l'm going to check it out again tomorrow, don't really want to open the other door up, incase l end up snapping more plastic white clips or have to drill out hex screws.

It seems like the newer bowden cables have orange ends on, and the older ones have blue. Although l don't have either that l can tell.

The foam gaskets , we dont have them come on each clip.

Which hex screws?

Believe it's a T30 torx screw, if you have the set that would work to....Of the four screws, two are 18mm and the other two are 52.5mm long

Also need the rubber grommet, which is located on the left top side of the door panel

Most true-value hardware stores have bins of fasteners....
When you mess one up, if you have one around, they have 90% of the ones used on our cars...sometimes you might end up with a hex head instead of a torix bit head, but at about 5-25¢ each...hard to complain....
