2004 mini won't start
Majorly bummed. Recently got the clutch replaced at the shop. Got the car back and drove it half a dozen times the same day. Took my kids to the movies and when I returned to go home the car failed to start. Turned the key, got dash lights, warning lights, heard the fuel pump prime and then nothing. Starter didn't even try to turn over.
I took the battery to 2 different major auto parts stores. Both told me battery tested out good but a little low. Charged the battery overnight replaced it in the car and still nothing. Changed out the ignition switch. Still nothing. Bump started the car and drove it to major auto parts store. They tested the battery and alternator. Both tested good with no issues. Turned the car off at the store and tried to restart it. Still nothing. Checked all fuses in the engine compartment and inside car. All fuses look good. Pulled the starter and noticed the braiding from motor to solenoid looked corroded. Replaced starter but still nothing. Very frustrated at this point and out of ideas on what to try next. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |
See the link below.. JPMM mentions "Minis do wierd things with low batteries." I came across this in December. One day was starting fine, next day no start. How old is the battery?

replaced starter as in a new starter?

If you had a bad engine ground, the car wouldn't start if you bump-started it or used jumper cables.

What exactly did they say the reading on the battery was at, what volt? I've seen more than a few times where the battery was at fault even if it seemed to read OK. Otherwise, maybe check out your ignition switch as the pins can oxidize. Info HERE.

After running the issues by a few friends they suggested replacing the clutch pedal ignition lock switch. This switch is located on the side of the master control cylinder behind the clutch pedal. After waiting a couple of days for the switch to come in I got it replaced. Sure enough the car fired up on the first try. Thank you everyone for
