valve chatter
my 2004 MCS has 75k on it. the valves seem a little chattery and im wondering if its time for a valve adjustment. any idea/comments?
thanks! -mike |
Have you checked you oil level lately? Not trying to be a smart azz, but I hope you have recently.

i changed it last weekend with royal purple 5w30 and a purolator filter, i checked the level today and its still fine. ive only had the car for 2 weeks so this could be normal for all i know.

Good oil......not so fond of the filter.
Next time I'd strongly recommended the OEM, Mann/Mahle, or even the NAPA. It just makes me wonder....if it was not doing the before the oil change? MINI's do make some valve noise...usually when not enough oil is getting to the top end. I'd check the level ASAP to ensure that the gasket did not leak, letting the oil out. Do you have the Gauge package? is the oil preasure ok? |
i dont have the chrono package. idk if the car was doing it before or not, i just noticed it when i had the radio off today. my next oil change will be in 2k miles and ill get an oem filter this time.

nothing wrong with posting a vid. or if you like just pull the cover and check the followers for breaks in the plastic . this is not unheard of . post a vid though to determine if maybe normal . it is a four and they can be noisy . plus the flywheel is very noisy so have some one push in the clutch while you listen and see if it sounds pissa then .

when i push the clutch in a little bith of the chatter goes away. ill try and get a vid when i can though.
