Can't Hit NAM from Comcast... Still!

Since Saturday night, I have been unable to connect to northamericanmotoring.com from my Comcast account in Columbia, MD.

Since then I have:
  1. Opened a trouble Ticket with Comcast: Still no luck!
  2. PM'd Mark to see if the problem might be on NAM's end: No response!
  3. Contacted theplanet.com (NAM's Hosting Company): No info... they suggested I contact Comcast's abuse dept.
  4. Emailed Comcast's abuse dept.: They replied saying that my Comcast provided ip address was not a Comcast ip so they were unable to help me...
  5. Become a firm believer in Torpark, a Firefox distribution with a built in proxy. So far , this is the only way I can hit NAM from home since the weekend!
I'd like to know if anyone else is still having trouble and if so, who is you internet provider and where are you connecting from?

chrisneal May 22, 2007 05:05 AM

I use Comcast in Massachusetts (begrudgingly... the loathsome pack of wolverines that they are ), and have had no problems connecting to NAM except for late Friday night, when I think the whole site was down.

gnatster May 22, 2007 05:50 AM

Have you tried to get to NAM via IP?

69.93.166.248

Possibly due to the server change the IP has changed and Comcast DNS has not picked up the change.

Mark May 22, 2007 06:28 AM

We haven't changed the IP on the server nor has it been moved. I've received a couple of other reports of Comcast customers not being able to reach the site. If you could go to http://www.whatismyip.com and then PM me from a computer (where you can reach the site) with the IP address it reports I'll try to do a traceroute from the server back to your machine to see where the routing problem might be. From what it sounds like it is a Comcast DNS problem.

Actually, I think its a routing problem. See my other post.

I've got a ticket open with our hosting provider with Feedback's routing information. No update yet but I'll let you know when I receive something from them.

Thanks, Mark!

The support guy at theplanet.com this morning was very nice even though as I'm not the customer, he couldn't do anything for me.

btw- your proxy banning filter is doing a pretty good job.... Its cutting me off about half the times I connect with Torpark.

I'm on comcast. No problems here.

I don't mean to sound unappreciative of your comment... but why did you bother to post it. The thread is about things not working and where the heck is "here"? I'm guessing that there are at least 200 "Speedway" references in the 50 states.

Its pretty popular in the month of May.

I posted because my access works and thought it might give hope. Besides, when you apologize prior to making a comment and then correct me, it only shows your apology is insinere in the first place.

So, good luck with your access woes, I hope it figures out.

Strange.......

Nam works from one of my computer, only from AOL browser.
But doesn't work on the other computers from both IE and AOL browser.

All machines using Comcast.

No NAM

Spoke to soon yesterday, still no connect using roadrunner (stny.rr.com) service!

LannyMCS May 23, 2007 02:14 AM

I'm on SBC DSL from CT, and have had no access on several occasions during the last 4 days. I got on this morning (now) but it took a couple of mniutes to connect; every other site I go to works as normal ( 1 to 2 second load).

For two days now, I have been unable to connect from work (Slidell, LA/DSL) but able to connect from home (Covington, LA/Charter Communications cable) with the same laptop. Strange that people from all over with a variety of ISPs are suddenly having problems.

Paul! May 23, 2007 02:42 AM

Another with no connectivity from home. Using Comcast cable, and located in Columbia, MD.

I can connect though using my Cingular cell phone as a modem though! (Thankfully, I have the unlimited data package, and it's surprisingly fast!

I'm having the same problem using Earthlink cable service (through BrightHouse) in Tampa Bay, Florida. I cannot connect to NAM on any of three Macs in my house that are on my network. If I VPN to the office (which really puts me on another network) or if I use my Verizon EVDO device I can hit NAM without a problem on the same Macs. It's almost like Earthlink has NAM blocked or something.

Seems like widespread problems... Mark... How about an update? Its been four days of this. It also appears that its not the fault or a problem with our ISP's...

+1

eager2own May 23, 2007 06:05 AM

As noted by others, problem isn't limited to comcast either . . . no home connection for me through TimeWarner / Roadrunner.

. . . And for some reason, the clock is still one hour off (this was posted at 10:05)

Greatbear May 23, 2007 06:11 AM

A tracert from home shows the connection ending at theplanet.com, NAM's host. Seems there is no hurry on The Planet's part to fix things.

Loony2N May 23, 2007 06:14 AM

Perhaps they were attacked by a hacker/virus and are blocking a range of IPs until they can more specifically deal with it?

Same here and I am in Cali on SBC DSL. Thank goodness for proxy servers.

A possibility.. but not likely as the duration of this selective outage is 4 days.. it would not take that long to identify. I'm thinking that they weren't even aware of it until we got Mark's attention yesterday.

Think about all the users who don't have a clue and just assume that the site is down! At least we have found a way to get our daily doses of NAM!
While I'm optimistic that an effort is underway to fix it, acknowledgement of that and periodic updates would go a long way in calming all of us down.

dogdal24 May 23, 2007 08:11 AM

Still down here in Pa. can connect from verison at work but not comcast from home. Can't look at NAM from home! I't driving me nuts.
