Hey look another oil consumption thread....

Here goes.

The other day I added 1/2 a qt, I drove 90miles and check the level again before a rally. It was 1/2 qt down again. We drove the rally and did another 240 miles.

I checked the oil again 1/2 qt down again.

To clarify this is a 2011 LCI R56 with 99k miles and the Im using the middle of the cross hatch mark as 1/2 qt low marking.

I also noticed at times blue smoke after a start up, and a friend did notice blue smoke while I was accelerating.

What in the hell am I looking at here?
Valve seals?
Rings?
Engine is fubar?

Is there a chance Mini USA can help with this?

I had a local dealer run a leak down test and compression test, and they claim everything was normal. I have a hard time trusting any dealer, even a highly recommended one.

Faulty valve cover PVC valve. Have them use their “ vacuum pressure guage” on the oil cap entry. Should read 38 bar. Readings above that require valve cover replacement.

what weight oil are you using? How often are you changing it? I’m still using 5w30 and change it every 4,500 miles. With new valve cover and clean pvc lines- I am using 1/2 qt between changes.
with a faulty valve cover the consumption can be as much as 1qt every 1,000 miles .

It couldn't possibly read 38 bar, that would be over 550 psi.

You have to watch your units, 38 mBar, or millibar is only about .5 psi.

Possibly valve seals. I had the same accel smoke symptoms but not quite the startup smoke. I'm in the process of rebuilding the head.
