Sold - But not what I Expected
I just want to post my experience of being on the other end of this transaction. I thought from reading the above post that I was getting 1000mile old rims and tires. What I received was poorly repainted rims with newish run flat tires. When I first approached the seller the seller (Royert442) and he said he was sorry and offered to take the rims back or refund the shipping. I was still slightly unhappy with this arrangement as I am in Canada and had to drive for 5 hours cross the boarder etc. to pick these up so I asked for a little more. As far as I'm concerned these NAM transactions are based on trust especially when you rely on posted photos. I have bought many things from this website and never had a problem. Most are open and honest with what happens. ......Here'sRoyert442's last communication with me.
"Hi Greg, i have thought about this, I'm not sure what more you expected for $400. I have purchased many rims/tires in my life, both used and new, and i have always had the proper expectations of you get what you pay for. I tried to see your point of view by trying to compromise and offering you a refund of $137.50, but you countered feeling that my gesture was not enough, well now i am retracting my refund offer. Do not contact me again this. Sorry you are disappointed, but at this point, this matter to me is finished." The seller claims to not have known that these were heavily used rims. That may be true...but to completely walk away the way he has is pretty unacceptable. Drawn your own conclusions. I just wanted this to be on record. Decide for yourself if you would buy anything from this man.

Wow, this sucks. Sorry to hear.
Do make sure to leave the corresponding feedback on "Royert442" account so that the rest of us don't get taken in the future.

You did drive down from Canada to pick them up and see them in person right? Why didn't you just say no thank you and not buy them. It sounds kind of like buyers remorse to me....but I may be reading your post incorrectly.
Edit, check that......you must have had the shipped somewhere else. Still the photos were pretty clear, perhaps more photos in the future. Everyone has different standards on what is good. I have a set of these rims on my S and have one with some curb rash. I could care less. Others would freak.

Raven. Look at the post I thought they were new. I was shopping for mint rims. I paid in advance. how could I not accept them? Whether you care about road rash or not ...is not the point. The point is about trust when buying on NAM. Sure we can all lower our standards but then you might just as well buy sight unseen from craigslist...right?
I can see your point $500+ plus your time and hassle is a point for frustration. In regards to trusting folks on the NAM? It is the internet, none of us are checked and any one of us can rip someone off. Would I, no, but that's not because I'm on NAM, it's because Of who I am.
Now your case. While it is a case of buyer beware the seller did offer to refund you your money and take back the tires. He then offered to at least refund you your shipping. Neither you thought was fair. What do you want? I just don't see that the seller did anything wrong, nary perhaps misrepresenting...but having only having the rims a week may not have even realised the rims were painted. Even then I don't see anything wrong with them in the photos....and I have seen some bad paint jobs.
I guess what I'm saying is you bought silver but wanted gold for the same price, now you realised it's not what you want and want the silver for the price of bronze.
In your defence, the seller's revocation of the offers was rather distasteful and generally wrong as once an offer is made it should not be withdrawn.

Raven. He had the tires for years. I looked at some of his postings. A couple when he first joined. He then claimed he knew a lot about cars. He claims he did 1000 miles then removed them. The car is a 2007 he later told me he bought used. My point is if he was mechanically inclined like he claimed he would have been well aware of the condition. Therefore he was not fully disclosing. Dishonest really unforgiveable in NAM. He has to live with that and $200 will never take that away. *****I could have bought tires locally for the same price but I like to support NAM members**** I will not do this again. Greg
If that is the case then that sucks and I wish you the best. I have been a member in a number of different forums dedicated to my different interests and there always seems to be a common belief that folks have that they trust other forum members and want to support a forum. In every case there is a bad egg and buyer always has to beware. I recall one forum where people would buy cheap from the classifieds from folks who wanted to help other forum members, then sell at a profit on eBay.
The wording of the original post doesn't really suggest that the wheels are new. It says they have no curb rash, and that the tires have 1000mi on them. I can see why you'd be irritated, but if they aren't curbed, I think the offer to refund the shipping was more than fair.

"No curb rash. Only had then on the car a week"....
Sorry don't agree sounds like both were on the car. At the very least it is not that clear. It could be miss read. ...
And just to add insult to injury.
Took the wheels to my tire guy. He took the tires off the rims to discover the rims hand been repainted while the tires were installed.....and one of the tires has had a puncture as it has a patch o the inside... your can not repair run-flats - well it says that on the tires.

Okay, so i didn't want to respond until the Dispute that buyer put in with Paypal was settled, and now it has been with the finding to be in MY FAVOR! I will not be responding to this thread after this, as i am not going to get into an internet shouting match! And now that Paypal has agreed with me, i consider this issue resolved!
But I do feel bad about this whole situation, so let me explain a little.
First off i purchased the car and within the first week i had ordered new rims/tires, which as soon as I received them, i took the old ones off and put them in the crawl space under my house, wrapped up in a tarp. Which with they sat for 2 1/2 yrs, until i decided that after i sold the Mini to sell them. I then removed the wheel on the top of the pile, wiped it down and took pics of it, assuming that all the others were in the same condition? Insert line here about what assuming means, everyone!, Makes an *** OUT OF YOU AND ME! Also i did know about the patching of the tire either, how could I , I never took the tires off the rims! So anyways, when i went to wrap them for shipping, which by the way i only have one light bulb under the house, and with daylight savings in effect, and wrapping them at night, i wrapped them in the dark essentially, but this way I could be and was at FedEX, literally when the doors open the next morning, so that they would be shipped out as soon as possible.
Now, once the buyer received the item, he emailed me, in which i emailed him back promptly stating that i am sorry that he is disappointed, and that to resolve this i can think of 2 solutions, either 1) you ship them back to me, with you covering the shipping and i will refund you the full sum that you paid for the rims/tires of $400, or 2) i will offer a refund of the shipping charges of $137.50, both offers he rejected stating that he wanted $220 refund, and said to me "let your conscience decide how much to refund" Well after doing the math, which comes out to the fact that he paid 23.9% the cost of NEW rims/tires, i thought about it overnight, and decided that no refund should be in order, and as i stated "you get what you pay for"
As well i just purchased rims/tires last weekend for my Jeep, in which i paid 85% cost of new rims/tires. Now, did i expect them to be in really good shape, sure i did, but again, you get what you pay for. And the notion that you can pay 23.9% of something, anything and expect it to be in as new condition is preposterous!
So that's my rebuttal to this situation, I'm done, I'm over it, all you guys/gals that are on here can make your own conclusions now that you have ALL the facts. In hindsight, do i wish i would have taken pics of all the rims/tires, yes, but at the same time, that was never asked of me either. The buyer saw the opportunity to pay next to little for something, but expected everything in return!
And again, i will not be responding to anything to do with the thread again. I'm done with this headache of a situation.

So...admits they were crap but takes no responsibility. It' really easy to rip someone off at a distance and then justify it to oneself rather than do the right thing. You know what..... you have to live with your head. I wish you luck with that. What comes around......
I think he meant to say that he did NOT know about the patch since he was nott able to take the wheels off the tires. In either case, I think purchasing used items online is a bit of a gamble since you are not physically there to inspect the items. I've bought used items online in the past and make sure I ask the seller all the history questions I want to know. Then, if I'm comfortable I'll make the purchase.
