Interesting but with concrete and blasted rock walls for run-off. Don’t want to make a mistake there....
Maybe someday...

Yeah, let's see if your Mini can quarry some granite. The piles of rock in the paddock didn't escape my attention.

When it first opened, rocks near the track were a problem and that's why I didn't go back for a few years. But they've cleaned it up pretty well with curbing and the runoff areas, to the extent they exist, are now seeded. If you make a serious mistake, the more likely scenario is that you smack a tire wall.

Tire walls must be new-ish...
I would like to try the clockwise direction. I was not a fan of the counterclockwise direction.

I think Patroons will be doing a 2 day event there in the fall. That might be a possibility.

Do you think Palmer influenced the design of the slot car track I built a few years ago?

Very cool. Mk I Cortina is one of my favorite Fords besides Mk I Escort BDA2000.

That would be nice. The last time I was there I picked up a stone shard in a tire that went through the soft rubber and into the cord. I lost a new tire with that one...

So, you want to know how to drive the chicane at LRP:

And probably the best 2 videos showing how to get around LRP:
Who better than Sam Posey to walk you through how to do it right:

Or Skip Barber (you know, the guy who owns the track) with some great shots of a MINI Cooper out on the track and a few cars exiting the track inappropriately -

I’ll be there next Monday and they will do the chicane in the last session. Weather looks iffy, so it will be rain tires, which happen to be the same as the dry tires -

And Liam Dwyer instructing Jeff Gordon around LRP -

So much fun, and so quick...

I did the chicane with SCDA once before. It was years ago. I'll look to see if I have footage. I remember it being a ton of fun and asking Ian why we don't do it more often.

gkp - great to see you today. Sounded like you had a good day.

The Turn 3 flagger came over and asked the “Na Na Na” Vette guy and me if we did the chicane and what did we think of it. I said that we had and it was definitely different and it added an interesting level of complexity and technicality to the track. I would have to run the track with the chicane a few more times to form a more definitive opinion. For now I will say that it was a nice option and the quick lefts and rights were fun.

As for braking, I found I could brake later than I originally thought and that if I carried a fair amount of trail braking into the turn-in the car would turn nicely. Of course that killed all of my momentum and I was too low in 3rd to pull well in the first part of the chicane. 2nd might have been faster initially but the shift to 3rd would have taken away some of that gain; but I didn’t try it. As it was, I was shifting out of 3rd, into 4th at the exit of the chicane, then would lift slightly going into west bend. Funny thing was that I then reverted to my old habit of braking for the downhill turn.

A good day all in all...

I started out by shifting down to second for the chicane and kept running out of revs before the top of the hill. Shifting to third at the top of the hill sucked because it left me in third-or-fourth quandary for West Bend. For the final three or four laps I did the chicane in third and it worked out much better and gave me time to get into fourth for West Bend. In any case, a good day. My MINI is running well these days. If they do the chicane again they should do it for at least two sessions. It took me the entire session to come close to a braking/shifting strategy so never really "attacked" the chicane.

For the last session I pointed a camera out the rear window. This is one of my last runs up the chicane when I was just starting to feel comfortable. You can hear me nipping the curbs.

Great video!

Just leave the second post. Now that it is annotated, everyone knows it was a double.
