Finally: A solution to that missing amp remote signal source?

Here's a link to the product:

http://www.amazon.com/TR-4-Low-Volta.../dp/B0002J22BE

"Module senses voltages as low as 0.8v and provides a 12v output with a 1-second delay. Can be triggered off of speaker leads or +5 remote wires."

So... connect this to a constant 12v power source, connect the signal wire to a positive speaker lead, and the output to the amp's remote input. It even has a 1 second delay to avoid any potential "pop" through the speakers... how cool is that? I'm ordering now; I'll post back after it's installed to confirm it works.

Thanks! Really hope this works.

Thanks man.

This sounds really great.

I am getting ready to do my install and this is a great piece to the puzzle. Most people are wiring the amp to the cigarette lighter, but i see potential problems with this since I split my cigarette lighter twice Also, the amp will only run when the car is on, not simply when the key is entered. I want it to work when the car is in "stand by" mode.

I will be tracking your progress. Awesome!

Update: I was really disappointed in this unit. Basically it's an over-hyped relay. It says you can tap into speaker wire for trigger input so your amp can turn on when there's voltage going to your speakers, but the thing is so sensitive that it triggers even when the stock Mini stereo is off. There is no sensitivity adjustment, either. Better off with a simple Radio Shack relay or just connecting your remote to the cigarette lighter, as I have done.

Could this be because of the door chime that you should hear when the door is opened? Same one that you should hear when the lights are left on, or the key left in the slot (or when it's too far away)? I say 'should' because I think I have the opposite problem as you. I installed an audio processor that uses the voltage from the speaker wire to also act as a remote to power up the amps, only I don't think it's sensitive enough .... it turns off and subsequently turns off my amps when the radio volume is really low. In addition, I do not hear any chimes for a few seconds (if at all) after the radio is turned on. Sounds like this unit may solve my problem, at least. I guess you wouldn't want your amps turning on without the radio turning on first.

Can a simple relay do the same thing? Hmmm ... gonna brush up on my relay knowledge ... been a while.

Not sure about the door chime. I connected the trigger input to one of the rear speaker channels... does the door chime come through all four speakers, or just the fronts?
