In short, Woohoo!

cooper99 Feb 23, 2007 08:38 AM

I love your new R56. When are you going to put some "toys" on that thing?

dave Feb 23, 2007 08:42 AM

All sparkling silver looks great.

Your R-56 looks great. I am really looking forward to reading bout it in GRM!

We had our first event yesterday. Not the competition we would have had at the Dixie Tour, but we got the job done, first and second on index on corded Kumhos.

Thoughts:

1) Car needs an alignment (duh) as it's a little pushy in transitions and doesn't "dance"
2) Shocks don't actually feel that bad, the Sport Suspension option is certainly a good starting point for 95% of the racers out there.
3) The shifter is a little vaguer and it's easy to miss second and go into the detent area below reverse (no harm, but hurts the run)
4) Um, it's quick.

Looks like the link got a little messed up.

here's the one I think you intended to use

Cool, thanks!

Looks like the new MCS picks up where the last one left off. G-Stock dominance to continue?

I wonder how the new MC will fare against the Mazda 3 in HS.

tdm156 Feb 26, 2007 11:18 AM

Thats a great looking 07. I visited one Saturday at my MINI dealer that was sparkling silver with the red leather and an aero kit. My wife to be got scared when I sat down in the driver seat and went ooooohhhhhh! I was very much impressed with the new 07....the pictures that have been posted leading up to the release do not do the MINI justice. Happy Motoring!

GRMPer Feb 26, 2007 11:27 AM

Yea, I don't see any reason why the new one won't be a hit on the autocross course. I've still got to investigate the camber issue. There's a little bolt that keeps strut mount from sliding in the slotted holes. We'll need to get confirmation from the factory service manual that it's ok to remove that nubby little socket head bolt.

Motoring Feb 26, 2007 12:28 PM

there is a similar pin on 330Ci's.

GRMPer Feb 26, 2007 12:37 PM

People just take them out and slide the strut around? Well, alrighty then!

Motoring Feb 26, 2007 01:28 PM

In the BMW service manual, it mentions removing the pin. In that case it was really a pin, that you hit with a hammer and punch to remove.

The pin, or bolt, is there to make sure that the alignment is correct when the car leaves the factory.

We need GWalsh to chime in here. According to his sig, he does motorsports stuff for Otto's MINI.

GRMPer Feb 27, 2007 04:07 AM

I've got an email into my connections at MINIUSA to get the documentation. Being autocross weenies, I want to make sure it's legit before I start, even though it's pretty obvious.

How much adjustability do you think that will gain? Are we talking about serious negative camber? That would surely make the MCS a DS car.

GRMPer Feb 27, 2007 11:32 AM

maybe 1 degree total, nothing to sneeze at, but not enough for SP :P

gwalsh Feb 28, 2007 11:13 AM

Yeah, knocking the pin out to change the camber is an official factory adjustment. Don't get too exited, the total range of adjustment is only about half a degree.
Who's got a line on adjustable shocks?

Motoring Feb 28, 2007 11:33 AM

Leda will build them for you.

Do you have a part number for the front struts? MCS w/sport suspension

I'm glad the R56 is no slouch. I can't wait to get mine on the autocross course. It has been a long wait. I'm pretty much a newbie, but what size tires did you run on the '07? Also did you get a limited slip diff?

EDIT: Nevermind the tire/wheel question. I just saw your 'blog' at Grassrootsmotorsports.com. I'll post for the benefit of everyone else: "Rota 16x6.5-inch wheels"

GRMPer Mar 1, 2007 06:17 AM

Yep, got the LSD.

Here's our preliminary camber numbers:

Good info Per! thats not too shabby compared to my 05 G-Stock MCS that had only -0.3 per side. The more you post, the more I want an R56. I would say another 10-15 posts and I'll probably make a trip to the dealer. lol

Are those camber specs? If you are at zero camber front/rear, that doesn't sound too good. Or maybe those are Toe specs?
