Mechanical LSD

After reading into a little more about Minis, it seems that between 07-09 Mini Coopers were available with a mechanical LSD - by SCCA rules, doesn't that mean we can backdate install whatever the factory mechanical diff was into HS coopers that don't have it?

cenotaph 02-17-2013 01:38 PM

I thought it was only the Ses that came with LSDs.

Update/backdate is in Street Prepared 15.1.C - no such language is included in Stock (Section 13).

Cheers,

Charlie

I forget what the exact language was, I thought you could match whatever trim was available from factory - i.e., you can run sport suspension, jcw suspension, wahtever etc. Anyway the idea is moot if the mechanical LSD was only available on the MCS.. damn Mini all they had to do was offer it.. I was going over it in a different thread, I think the transmission is the same, which is where the LSD is housed, correct?

So I guess all the more unfortunate that the justas were not offered with the mechanical LSD from the factory?

With sticky tires the base Cooper doesn't need a mechanical LSD.

Just so you understand: You can in Stock classes, but only if it was offered on cars of your specific model and year. "Backdate" means any year for models listed on the same line in a Street Prepared class.

kyoo 02-18-2013 10:08 AM

right.. ie., if a mechanical lsd had been offered in 2009, then u would be able to for your 09. seems that it was not offered for base coopers though, just mcs

hsautocrosser 02-18-2013 10:24 AM

Correct. It was S only (no base, no JCW) and was discontinued in March 2010.

They'd be untouchable in HS or GS with an LSD. I think it would make a big difference. I know I still fight wheelspin at corner exits, especially with the JCW up front.

Jack lives right around the corner from me. He's a hell of a driver. He's sporting a '13 Mini in RTF this year.

And I've the pleasure of seeing Matt Murray on a regular basis up at NER - I do NOT think he's running that 318 in HS this year, but if he does I'll have one hell of a benchmark.

not legal...never was

Sandy claimed Murray's 318i. The magical unicorn HS car (RWD w/ LSD) is gone forever. Matt runs his 1Series M Coupe now... Not a bad consolation one would say.

JCW springs or front bar?
