Countryman shifter

How hard is it to replace the shift knob on 2011 countryman all4s

Just pull up real hard and it will come off with the boot. Then take the boot off and you can install your aftermarket knob. We've been using the Craven knobs

As you're pulling up, try not to hit yourself in the face when it comes free

Out of park

So how do I shift out of park when the engine isn’t running so I can get the shifter in a better position to pull on it? (This is my wife’s car)

Oh, this is an automatic? I don't think I've ever seen how to remove the automatic shift knob.

As for getting out of park, you should be able to press the start/stop button a couple times WITHOUT your foot on the brake and it should let you move it out of park. I do this sometimes on my wife's Clubman to roll it out of the garage without starting it.

edit: I found a few posts that said it's the same for an automatic--just pull up really hard. Some people have replaced their auto shift knob with one that doesn't have a lockout button. Here's a thread:
