in driveway, long darkened areas around front of tires

almost a year of ownership and about 5.2k miles on my CM-S. so far no major issues. just noticed in my driveway some darkened long areas starting from the front tires to the beginning of the back. i dont see any puddles. i'm not sure what it is....thinking that this could be brake dust that has i washed off and sticking to the driveway? is this possible? (it almost looks like when you spray tire shine on and it turns the driveway dark) anyone have any ideas? (i did move the car to the other side of the driveway to see if it happens there)

Shoot, I was sure someone would have posted "you might want to stop doing burnouts in your driveway" :-)

I've noticed this also...brake dust from washing the car. There's...lots of it!

That is exactly what I thought about posting last night except I couldn't think of how to word it without sounding snarky. Brake dust is evil.

It's all brake dust. My driveway 2 years ago was brand new and nice white concrete and now 2 years later and 3 Minis, it is pretty dark and black. I have to power wash it one of these days. Plus mine is combo of brake dust and tire marks as well. The stock rubber leave nice marks.

thanks for the responses

i parked my car in my wife's spot last night and nothing this morning. parked it at the garage all day and nothing. even opened the hood - shined a flash light all over and underneath...nothing....so i am comforted by others' responses - i started thinking all kinds of bads things based on some of the posts in this forum. i'll take brake dust anytime.

There's lots of really low dust, higher performance pads than stock. Clean driveways, clean rims and better braking.

hit it with a powerwasher, if it comes up pretty easy I'd say it's the dust. If water stands on it or has a shine then it might be something else, but i doubt it or you'd have seen it when you went over the vehicle. I wash mine each weekend and I've noticed streaks on my drive as it has a slight angle so the dust washed down inthe same general path each bath. Also, I tend to drive fairly quick on the backroads coming home some days, so much heavier brake useage at least 3 times a week, so plenty to wash off on weekends... and settle on the drive.
