water leak from driver's door seal
I've searched this forum as well as Googled in general--I've found that water issues are not uncommon with the R56, but looks like those have various issues with AC drains, sunrooft, etc. My R58 coupe has water leaking around the driver's door. 67k miles, it's been parked outside since new, never had an issue with leaks. A few weeks ago after some rain found the driver's side carpet soaked. Testing with the hose I found that water is getting behind the door seal at the hinge side, running down the body seam and then over the rocker into the car.
Dried out the carpet and applied silicone sealant to the back side of the door seal where it attaches to the seam. Tested with water, just as bad as before. Is the fix going to be a new door seal? Is there some TSB on the repair for this? The seal itself still makes contact with the door and window glass just fine, it's just that water is somehow getting behind the mounting channel. Thanks for any advice, -Michael |
I have an R58, Its integrated into the door on the rear seal, do you have a pic of the seal, I bet the door glass need to be adjusted.

The leak is at the front edge of the door, not the rear. Water isn't coming around the edge of the window. Rather, it's getting behind the door seal near the windshield/hinge area and tracking down the seam until it flows over into the car. I removed the door seal and found the "U" channel on the back was splayed wide where it should be gripping the metal. I could try bending it back but think for $90 I'll go ahead and order a new door seal.

Ok, yep that the seal then, https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/51762758965/
Try with some needle nose but it might not work. I treat mine wit gummi fedge on the door seal to it window once a year to help. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-autosol-...pflege/6501kt/ Thats the lastest part 51767372775 |
Just wanted to post back and say that the new door seal has solved the leak. Thoroughly tested with the garden hose, and the car was outside all day in the rain yesterday--dry as a bone. Thanks again for the help!

Thanks for the update :) Welcome.

Update
I know this is an old thread but I have the same exact issue on both sides of the car. Has your issue ever returned? My weatherstripping was replaced by the dealer years ago because of excessive wind noise.

I removed the weather stripping and applied silicone in certain areas and it passed my hose test. I’m just waiting for it to rain hard to really tell. I even put a water sensor under the carpet so I’ll know immediately if it failed.
