The JCW Coupe diary.........2000 miles....
Well, another digit on the odometer and the little beast is still growing enjoyable the more I drive it. Here are some of my observations since my last diary.
The brake dust issue that was so serious in the first thousand miles has improved for the better. It seems the pads and the rotors have set properly and the wheel cleaning core is less frequent. Also the rear pads stick when backing off is now gone. My concern about a noisy engine valve train has been answered a few days ago. The "hiss and growl" is from the turbo and I am told it is normal for this particular model because the turbo is bigger than the Cooper S. I really don't know if it is true. The handling and road manners are still outstanding but sometimes I am wondering if the Coupe would not benefit from wider tires. Mileage is improving slowly but it is better. Driving the car mostly in town since the beginning may have been the main reason for bad performance. In the next few weeks, I will drive mostly on highways. It will be interesting to see what I will achieve in this matter. Overall, I sincerely believe there is nothing else in the market like a JCW Coupe. Some like it, others don't. Overall, I have positive comments. Stay posted for the diary at 2500 miles. |
I wasn't a fan of the Coupe model at first, but after seeing a few around and admiring the JCW Coupe, I've since changed my tune. Glad to hear you're enjoying yours!

I really like them , nothing on the road that looks like it , i guess unless you think its the new Porsche, like people have asked me. :) |
Would have to agree. I would love to pick up a JCW Coupe for my next project car. Just have to convince the wife about owning a two seater lol.

If I would have to say something about where improvement is really needed, it is more power and torque. Even in city driving with the sport button on, unless you are in 3rd, a basic Toyota Camry, Nissan or Hyundai has better acceleration.

You know for sure that your car isn't right. It's slow, it sputters, and you get 18 MPG. That's beyond obvious. Have you taken it to a dealer?
I never said it is slow or it sputters. It is your interpretation of my words. It is a good and honest commuter in traffic that is mostly on par with most family sedans in the 250-300HP range. Its main attribute is handling. |
Try the JB+ and a set of colder plugs. By far the best bang for the buck and transforms the car from fun to "can't wipe the grin from your face" level.

Here's a good thread to start on. There's another thread when the system was first introduced. God knows how many pages long that one is by now. Basically it adds 3+ psi and makes normal mode feel more fun that sport mode.

It plugs into the wire harness at the MAF sensor.
Indeed, very interesting. |
