OEM MINI LED DRL's installed!

2 Attachment(s)
Hello Friends,

I thought you may enjoy seeing these as I (think) I may be the first on here to have these installed. Santa got these for me so I only had to pay for installation which was $350.00 at MINI of Stevens Creek (Silicon Valley).

Pic#1 = LED DRL (headlamps/parking off), Pic#2 = LED parking (parking on), Pic#3 = LED foglight (parking on), Pic#4 LED DRL full front (looks like fogs are on but that BRIGHT light is just the LED DRL ring);

Sharp looking coupe! I also just got these for my Clubman, but you're first with the pix!

Congrats on the DRLs! They are my favorite mod thus far to make your MINI unique. However, people have actually been getting these since May of last year from this thread.

$350 for install? How long did the dealer take to do the install?

Well, in the above thread link that poor guy paid 370 (GBP) which is $610 USD so now I REALLY feel like I got a deal. :)

The instructions with the kit indicate 1.5hrs for installation. However my dealer quoted $350 as I was the first customer they've done this for and they wanted to do a little "cya" in case it took longer. It ended up taking them almost 5hrs but they only charged me the original quote.

I'm what I call a "superficial" DIY guy - i.e. I can only do smaller mods (for example I installed the stripes myself). But for larger jobs like this, $350 was a steal considering the stress, anxiety and possible destruction of my electrical system I avoided!

I believe the guy paid £370 for parts and install, but hey when it comes to avoiding stress and anxiety, paying for install is the way to go and as long as you are happy at the end, that's all that matters.

That's what I thought too. Fill me in on one thing about these. The foglights are standard, (and of minimal usefullness IMO). Does this mod add LED driving lights to the bulb, so you have the option of Xenon (or whatever) + Led Driving light (no brights) or Xenon + fog lights (no brights)? And the fogs are in the center and LED driving lights are around the rim? Sorry, this work browser won't let me see your pix.

You replace the whole stock fog lamp assembly with the LED fog lamp assembly and it goes like this:

1) when headlights are off, you get halo DRLs
2) when headlights are on, you get the "brow" top section lit
3) turn on fogs and you get the center and "brow" top section also with it.

These will work with either halogen or xenon headlights. You need to have stock foglights to do the retrofit.

So they cost $350 to install, how much were the parts? Are they mainly ornamental or do they light anything significant up by themselves? I was confused by the LEDs on the F56. I couldn't tell if the LED was just the "eyebrow" or if the whole headlamp was LED material too.

Very cool. This is definitely something I would consider...

Since you are in Arizona, try contacting SuperGreg, and he will hook you up with his mechanic who charges $135 to install these.

These are designed to function as daytime running lights so you do not have to use your headlights if you have that feature turned on in your car. And yes, they are very bright; brighter than my xenons even! The fact that they look very cool is just a plus!

Just check the NAM vendors for prices and shipping and see which works best for you. But FYI, retail price is $504.10 plus tax for comparison.

Firstly, thanks to KilmerPT's reply giving the best and most simplified explanation on how the LED DRL's work.

I got these as a gift but I believe they were purchased from ECS Tuning for $441.00 So with the install of $350 my "actual" cost was $791.00.
Not cheap but here's something to consider;

Since my Coupe is under warranty I wanted only an authorized dealer to do the install so as not to raise warranty concerns. My strong recommendation to the DIYers is if your vehicle is under warranty, verify with your dealer first any voided warranty risks before doing the installation yourself - $350 may very well be cheap "insurance".

To your other Q;they are both ornamental and serve as DRLs as they are very bright - you can see me coming a mile a way!

I'm happy to report I just confirmed that "Santa" did in fact get the above kit from ECS Tuning. Furthermore the Elves told me ECS Tuning had the best pricing and shipped very quickly! Thanks Fellas!

glennaa11 Jan 14, 2014 06:20 PM

theminipartstore.com has them for $400 plus shipping.

Had my car in for some service today and asked about install. Was told it would cost $200 and some for installing these. The SA said I should send him what I found online and he would see if they could match the price.

UPDATE
Dealer is offering me the lights for $450 plus $155 for installation. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Getting mine installed today, $ 425, plus $ 200 labor. I installed the Xpel Ultimate film on it to protect it from rocks and chips. Thanks for the write up.

At a dealership? The part looks like and OEM Mini part. I wonder why they don't offer them as a factory option. I'm sure people would order them, I know I would.

I believe they are now available as a factory-installed option. But there were not available when we ordered our cars. In my case in 2011.

These suckers are bright. Here's a car we did the installation a while back, with the aperture speed sped up quite a bit to see the shape.

Those look really good, I have been on the edge about getting them for my car.

MINIPartsMass Feb 21, 2014 09:34 AM

I can not stop drooling at how awesome these look! I always loved the halo's on the BMWs and now MINI offers them!

If anyone is interested, we do offer these for $425 with free shipping within the continental 48 states! (shipping cost is refunded when the order is processed).
