was wondering whether an r56 (non sport just premium package) would win against a civic si coupe in just a run
nothing just like a street race?

As someone who chose an Acura RSX-S (which, let's face it, is basically an Si w/ no LSD) over an R53 MINI in 2004, let me say that those high-revving Honda engines are incredibly difficult to launch correctly because of an extremely narrow power band. Plus, Honda/Acura severely "under-tires" their cars, which makes things even worse.
With an expert driver in both cars, you'd probably have a dead heat to 60 mph. Beyond that the Si would own you; it pulls hard all the way to redline, while the R56 starts to lose power at similar engine speeds. But in the real world, the R56 would be much easier to drive quickly because of its superior torque and wider powerband.
It's apples to oranges, though, in my opinion...an Si is for budget racers who see 200 horsepower for $21k and go crazy, while an R56 is for people who have fun driving without getting arrested for disturbing the peace.
I know that my RSX would out-drag my new R56 (getting picked up on Saturday, woohoo!) from 0-100, but I don't care. I've had enough of no power until 6000 rpm.

I test drove an RSX the day after test driving an MCS. I can say that the MCS definitely beats the RSX in the fun-to-drive category. I'm somewhat used to engines that don't have much in the low revs, so that wasn't an issue, but the MINI is just more fun.Originally Posted by benzz
