Hatch won't latch
 

I have a 2009 R56 and my hatch won't latch. I can lock it with the fob but the thing will not latch except on rare occasion. I've replaced the latch and have found on both the new and original that the little square white thing is caught only half way to where it needs to go. Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a Mini rear latch problem last month. I happened to come across this excellent EricTheCarGuy video while trying to find a solution. In my case, this item was the solution to my rear latch problem:

Yep most of its the rear latch. Upper trunk lid grip.

Sometimes its the lower latch that fails also. We have aftermarket ones in those also.
